I tried logging on from Google and was denied access on both laptops. I got a 'Cannot write to page' error notice. I thought it might be my antivirus, but not on two separate machines. It's not making a lot of sense. Any Tech wizards out there? |

Waltz Date: 08 Nov 25 - 04:49 AM When I go to the Roud Index (hosted by the same group, I get a "forbidden" error, with two different browsers. And when I go directly to efdss.org, I get a "0 - cannot write to log file" error. So something is wrong. But I've no clue what. Probably the reason it worked on the page you already had open was that you had cached enough parts of it that you didn't need to access as many resources. |

I have found I can get in via 'Mainly Norfolk' Evidently the permission has not been denied to their existing links, but the website is all over the place. I am wondering if the problem is with the old website in as much as it was taken down yesterday, and there was a redirection to the new, and now this has gone access has been reduced somehow. No I know absolutely nothing as well. |

Luckily https://archives.vwml.org/, which houses the Roud index, still works but it looks funny as it loads the page header and background from another EFDSS site that is broken too. |

Which hints that they're under a cyber attack. Maybe it will clear up when things quiet down. But that's only a guess. |

You didn't give the text of the error, but there were errors of that sort coming up before. That's likely Cloudflare, not the efdss site. If the site is in fact under attack (we don't know, but the symptoms fit), then you may be fine once Cloudflare is able to back off. |

But I rebooted my router to get a new IP address (Error 1006 is IP address blocked) and that does seem to have worked (on my desktop at least; haven't tried the others, but I imagine they will work too). I was able to access the Janet Blunt papers (for my Sing We Merrily thread), which I was unable to do earlier. Thanks again. |

Keith and Nick -- I don't KNOW that efdss is under attack. It's just that Cloudflare errors usually arise when a site is under attack, and the symptoms we're seeing -- parts of the site being intermittently inaccessible -- are also typical in that case. So it's the simplest explanation for what we're seeing. If anybody is trying a Roud query and failing, try again in a little while. If that too fails -- well, the software for the Traditional Ballad Index software also includes the Roud Index, and I can actually do fancier searches than you can do at the online site. So I can look things up, within reason. |
