Hello! This is the third attempt and hopefully the last to get a member of the Mudcat Cafe. The last two times I signed in I always lost my cookies and though I did all what was mentioned in the "help", I couldn't get it back :o( So I was forced to post as GUEST Sabine. But, if anyone remembers me, it is really me *giggle*. Is there a chance to store the cookie so that it won't get lost again? I mean, if I delete the cache it would be lost again or am I wrong? Well I hope the best and I'm glad to be here.

Welcome, Sabine! Sorry you has so much trouble. Yes, if you dump the cache you will lose your cookie, but now that you are a member, when that happens, just go to the Quick Links, open the pull down menu, choose Reset Cookie and follow the guides from there. Don't forget your password, as you will be asked to enter it.

Welcome Sabine. What part of Germany ? I was born in Zwiebrucken while my Ma & Pa were stationed there in the '60's.

BTW, re delete the cache, you mean delete files, ie temporary files, and delete history in the browser commands ? The reason I ask is because I do it all the time and it hasn't affected my logging in to the Mudcat.

Hi,

yes, I meant deleting the cookie files. I am working on two different computers (home and work). Now I'm sitting at work (and my boss is gone, hehehe). And for that reason I have to delete a lot of files on that computer. Even the cookies. *sigh*. Maybe it is because of the difference in my email addresses. For the last (new) membership I changed it.

Gnu, I'm living near Cologne which is quite far away from Zweibruecken.

Well, I hope I don't make too much mistakes. It's always the same with those Germans. They don't work on their vocabulary and the grammar :o)

I'm coming to Germany in April. I'm going to be in Berlin! They're planning to take us to Sachsenhausen though and I'm not looking forward to that. I can't wait for the rest of the trip though!

Hi Sabine.

You should only have one Mudcat membership and stick with that even if you are using more than one computer which you can update at any time. Duplicate memberships cause a lot of confusion and are one of the few things people are asked to try and avoid doing here.

If you have registered at Mudcat, all you need to do is go to Membership, click on reset cookie and supply the details when asked to get that membership working on that computer (providing that computer accepts cookies).

to Cat: enjoy Berlin. It is a wonderful city, very busy but also lots of friendly people. I only stayed there for 2 days last spring and I was overwhelmed!

We don't delete old memberships but we sometimes mark old ones as inactive to help avoid confusion. Let's see what Joe Offer says - I'm only a JoeClone (a name for volunteers who try to fix some things and help out round here).

Eric, I will look up the link to the German Mudcatter Meeting. Münster is not too far away from me. About 1 hour riding, maybe 1 1/2 h. So it might be possible to get there. We will see.

mousthief: I see :o) As I said before, some words or phrases I don't understand.

The pronounciation is "ssa - bee - ne", with a stress on "bee". Like honeybee *smile*. At the end there is an "e", the same "e" like "the".

Yes, you're right. It is very, very hard work but I'm still working on it. At the moment I am re-designing the whole show but after that I keep on translating it. Otherwise you have to try the babelfish. Not always exact in translating but very funny, indeed *eg*

Don't feel embarassed about your English. The fact that you're trying, and willing to join a forum like this made up mostly of native English speakers shows that you are very courageous and brave! Hurray for you! We can live with your occasional stumbles -- the way you overlook faults in your best friends because you like them.

I'm sure if I were posting at a German site, my Deutsch would be FAR worse than your very good English!

Babelfish is fun to do a there-and-back-again translation. Write something in one language, translate it to a second, then re-translate it back to the first and see how far away from the original it has become. Great way to waste time!

The "cookie" joke is this: "tossing your cookies" or "losing your cookies" = throwing up, or, being sick, that is, regurgitating half-digested food into yours or someone else's lap, etc. It's one of those little things that we in North America find (like loud farts)rediculously funny in a juvenile sort of way. (Unless it is happening to ourselves, then it is not funny at all!) :`)

Sabine, there is a wonderfull art book called Griffin And Sabine. They are artists. He is in London and she lives on a small island in the South Pacific but when she closes her eyes and relaxes she can see in her mind's ey the drawings and paintings as he works on them. The story is told entirely through their letters and postcards exactly as they are written. That means you may see the picture side of a postcard on a page. On the back of that page is the other side of the postcard with the message. If the correspondence is a letter then the front of the page is the front of the envelope. The back of the page is the actual envelope with the letter inside. You have to remove the letter and unfold it to read it.

The author is Nick Bantock. I have loaned my copy to a friend and cannot give you the ISBN. It is very romantic and lovely. There is an audio tape also with Marina Sirtis doing the part of Sabine (they pronounce it SAH-BEE-N, emphasis on the BEE) The audio tape is unabridged and has two voices reading the letters and postcards. I don't know the man's name. The audio tape is exccellant also.

There are three books, Griffin And Sabine, Sabine's Notebook, and The Golden Mean. They are more than romantic. They are frustrating and nervewracking. I love them.

Thank you, Brett. I will have a look whether it is available here in Germany. The pronounciation of the name Sabine you mentioned is the usual way English speakers pronounce it. In the Netherlands people call me Sabina, with an a at the end. Its easier for them. I don't mind and like all variations :o)
