Subject: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Sabine Date: 14 Mar 01 - 05:26 PM Hello! This is the third attempt and hopefully the last to get a member of the Mudcat Cafe. The last two times I signed in I always lost my cookies and though I did all what was mentioned in the "help", I couldn't get it back :o( So I was forced to post as GUEST Sabine. But, if anyone remembers me, it is really me *giggle*. Is there a chance to store the cookie so that it won't get lost again? I mean, if I delete the cache it would be lost again or am I wrong? Well I hope the best and I'm glad to be here. Kind regards from Germany Sabine |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: katlaughing Date: 14 Mar 01 - 05:35 PM Welcome, Sabine! Sorry you has so much trouble. Yes, if you dump the cache you will lose your cookie, but now that you are a member, when that happens, just go to the Quick Links, open the pull down menu, choose Reset Cookie and follow the guides from there. Don't forget your password, as you will be asked to enter it. All the best, kat |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: gnu Date: 14 Mar 01 - 05:44 PM Welcome Sabine. What part of Germany ? I was born in Zwiebrucken while my Ma & Pa were stationed there in the '60's. BTW, re delete the cache, you mean delete files, ie temporary files, and delete history in the browser commands ? The reason I ask is because I do it all the time and it hasn't affected my logging in to the Mudcat. gnu |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: katlaughing Date: 14 Mar 01 - 05:49 PM OOps, good point, gnu, I was just automatically thinking she meant deleting her cookies files. Thanks.. |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: gnu Date: 14 Mar 01 - 06:03 PM I never toss my cookies... well, there was that Oktoberfest. Bratworst and beer, you know. gnu |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: GUEST,Sabine Date: 15 Mar 01 - 02:51 AM Hi, yes, I meant deleting the cookie files. I am working on two different computers (home and work). Now I'm sitting at work (and my boss is gone, hehehe). And for that reason I have to delete a lot of files on that computer. Even the cookies. *sigh*. Maybe it is because of the difference in my email addresses. For the last (new) membership I changed it. Gnu, I'm living near Cologne which is quite far away from Zweibruecken. Well, I hope I don't make too much mistakes. It's always the same with those Germans. They don't work on their vocabulary and the grammar :o) Sabine |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Firecat Date: 15 Mar 01 - 07:31 AM Hallo Sabine!! I'm coming to Germany in April. I'm going to be in Berlin! They're planning to take us to Sachsenhausen though and I'm not looking forward to that. I can't wait for the rest of the trip though! Auf wiedersehen Kat |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Jon Freeman Date: 15 Mar 01 - 07:58 AM Hi Sabine. You should only have one Mudcat membership and stick with that even if you are using more than one computer which you can update at any time. Duplicate memberships cause a lot of confusion and are one of the few things people are asked to try and avoid doing here. If you have registered at Mudcat, all you need to do is go to Membership, click on reset cookie and supply the details when asked to get that membership working on that computer (providing that computer accepts cookies). Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Áine Date: 15 Mar 01 - 09:00 AM Welcome, welcome, welcome, Sabine!! Don't worry, most of us here at the 'Cat have tossed our cookies at least once (ha ha). I'm glad that you didn't give up, and hope that you'll be around here for a very long time. Are you the Sabine with the great website? All the best, Áine |

I tried to reset the cookie but please don't ask me why it didn't work. So, if you don't mind I'll stay at this account :o). Or is there a possibility to delete the others? to Cat: enjoy Berlin. It is a wonderful city, very busy but also lots of friendly people. I only stayed there for 2 days last spring and I was overwhelmed! to Áine: hmmmmm....if you mean "cantalibre", yes its me. And if you do so thanks for calling it great *g* to LR Mole: sorry, but I can't get the joke *snik* :o( to Fortunato: thanks for the welcome. i think my English is quite okay. I only don't grasp some jokes and synonyms. But I will work on that during my summer holidays in Ireland Soooooo, did I forget anyone? happy mudcatting, folks *g*

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: mousethief Date: 15 Mar 01 - 03:36 PM I think Mole just wanted to know how you pronounce your name, Sabine! Anyway, Wilkommen zu Mudcat. I spent a lovely month in Germany when I was in High School. 3 weeks in and around Nürnberg and a week in Berlin. Very friendly people. Lovely country. Alex. |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Sabine Date: 16 Mar 01 - 02:50 AM Thanks, Jon, now I got it. Eric, I will look up the link to the German Mudcatter Meeting. Münster is not too far away from me. About 1 hour riding, maybe 1 1/2 h. So it might be possible to get there. We will see. mousthief: I see :o) As I said before, some words or phrases I don't understand. The pronounciation is "ssa - bee - ne", with a stress on "bee". Like honeybee *smile*. At the end there is an "e", the same "e" like "the". Was this helpful? Bye, Sabine
By the way: with a trick I got my cookie back! Strike!!! |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Áine Date: 16 Mar 01 - 08:44 AM Hello Sabine! Congratulations on finding your cookie *BG* Yes, that's your site I was calling 'great' -- I just wish I could remember the four years of German I took in high school! I look forward to seeing more of your site translated into English -- although I know that it is very hard work and it will take some time. Keep up the good work on your site, and great good luck with it. All the best, Áine |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Sabine Date: 16 Mar 01 - 12:54 PM Hi Áine, thanks a million :o))))) Yes, you're right. It is very, very hard work but I'm still working on it. At the moment I am re-designing the whole show but after that I keep on translating it. Otherwise you have to try the babelfish. Not always exact in translating but very funny, indeed *eg* regards, Sabine |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Naemanson Date: 16 Mar 01 - 01:24 PM Welcome Sabine! I hope you enjoy yourself here. And now a test and an example of Mudcat Madness: So, Sabine, how's Griffin and why aren't you in the South Pacific? |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: mousethief Date: 16 Mar 01 - 01:27 PM Sabine, thanks for the pronunciation help! Don't feel embarassed about your English. The fact that you're trying, and willing to join a forum like this made up mostly of native English speakers shows that you are very courageous and brave! Hurray for you! We can live with your occasional stumbles -- the way you overlook faults in your best friends because you like them. I'm sure if I were posting at a German site, my Deutsch would be FAR worse than your very good English! Babelfish is fun to do a there-and-back-again translation. Write something in one language, translate it to a second, then re-translate it back to the first and see how far away from the original it has become. Great way to waste time! Again, Sabine, welcome welcome welcome! Hope you enjoy your time here as much as I have since I've been here. alex |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Sabine Date: 16 Mar 01 - 03:25 PM Naemanson: Ye wha' ???? Jazus, be patient with a German dumb blonde *bg* No idea, really. But, by the way "what is a sheep with two legs?" ---------- Alex: think the best way to learn a language is to communicate with native speakers. How else should I learn it? And though I know that I sometimes stumble, being here is great craic :o) You all will have great fun when I am ready with the English translation of my website *lol* Sabine |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Jande Date: 16 Mar 01 - 04:22 PM Hi Sabine! Welcome to Mudcat! The "cookie" joke is this: "tossing your cookies" or "losing your cookies" = throwing up, or, being sick, that is, regurgitating half-digested food into yours or someone else's lap, etc. It's one of those little things that we in North America find (like loud farts)rediculously funny in a juvenile sort of way. (Unless it is happening to ourselves, then it is not funny at all!) :`) Anyway, hello and aagain, welcome! ~ Jande (Seanna Rowe)

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Noreen Date: 16 Mar 01 - 09:30 PM I don't know, Sabine, what is a sheep with two legs? I know what a sheep with no legs is. Chill, Eric... all this talk of sheep... |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Sabine Date: 17 Mar 01 - 04:04 AM Goooooooood Moooooooooooooorrrrrrrrniiiiiiiing!!!!! Here at home it is 9.50 a.m. And I'm glad to see new reactions :o) Spaw: now I'm definetly awake *g* Jande : thanks for the explanation. But by counting 1 + 1 I understood the joke with the cookie *gggggg*. Rollo: where do you come from? I thought that "coughing dice" was a German picture. We also use it here. Noreen: the sheep joke is an Irish one, possibly one about the people from Cavan. What's a sheep with two legs? - Easy If one can't find the joke in it I'll look for the key-joke *evilgrin* Have a nice St. Paddy's Day Sabine

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Noreen Date: 17 Mar 01 - 12:11 PM Yes, I get the joke, Sabine, unfortunately! *grin* Noreen |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Naemanson Date: 17 Mar 01 - 01:12 PM Sheep with two legs is easy? Depend on which two legs... Sabine, there is a wonderfull art book called Griffin And Sabine. They are artists. He is in London and she lives on a small island in the South Pacific but when she closes her eyes and relaxes she can see in her mind's ey the drawings and paintings as he works on them. The story is told entirely through their letters and postcards exactly as they are written. That means you may see the picture side of a postcard on a page. On the back of that page is the other side of the postcard with the message. If the correspondence is a letter then the front of the page is the front of the envelope. The back of the page is the actual envelope with the letter inside. You have to remove the letter and unfold it to read it. |

Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Sabine Date: 17 Mar 01 - 08:17 PM Noreen: *ggggggg* I love this joke , but it took month for me to understand it *sigh*. That was before I new other jokes like this.... Naemanson: seemed that you knew this joke, too :o) It sounds to be a nice and romantic story about Griffin and Sabine. Never heard of that before, alas. Really pity about that. Do you know the author and/or ISBN? Kind regards, Sabine |
|
Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Naemanson Date: 17 Mar 01 - 11:36 PM The author is Nick Bantock. I have loaned my copy to a friend and cannot give you the ISBN. It is very romantic and lovely. There is an audio tape also with Marina Sirtis doing the part of Sabine (they pronounce it SAH-BEE-N, emphasis on the BEE) The audio tape is unabridged and has two voices reading the letters and postcards. I don't know the man's name. The audio tape is exccellant also. There are three books, Griffin And Sabine, Sabine's Notebook, and The Golden Mean. They are more than romantic. They are frustrating and nervewracking. I love them. Enjoy! Brett |
|
Subject: RE: Just to say hello to all Mudcats :o) From: Sabine Date: 18 Mar 01 - 04:35 AM Thank you, Brett. I will have a look whether it is available here in Germany. The pronounciation of the name Sabine you mentioned is the usual way English speakers pronounce it. In the Netherlands people call me Sabina, with an a at the end. Its easier for them. I don't mind and like all variations :o) Have a nice Sunday Sabine |
