Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: janey Date: 08 Jan 02 - 01:43 PM i was looking for an excuse to get boyfriend dave dressed up as Father Jack from "Father Ted" (vicars and tarts?) but he didn't see the funny side and i haven't got a tea trolley. |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: SharonA Date: 08 Jan 02 - 01:48 PM Some years ago, I'd heard about a charity function where every woman was instructed to wear her most gawd-awful gown. I have a couple of old prom gowns and bridesmaid dresses that would have fit the bill perfectly. I'm sure there's also men's formal attire out there that some guys can't believe they ever wore. So how about a "Prom Night-mare" party, just for fun? |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: M.Ted Date: 08 Jan 02 - 02:04 PM It seems transparently obvious that you want to have a Father Ted Party!(don't quite know why, but the idea appeals to me) Men never like the idea of a dress-up party, but if you go ahead and plan it, he will come, and, as most men are lacking in costume creativity, he *will* dress as Father Jack-- |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: Jim Krause Date: 08 Jan 02 - 02:15 PM Fr. Jack? Hmmmm, must be some sort of English theme party this Yank has no idea about. Best I can do is Monty Python. Or else yer stuck wiv Jane Austen. Jim |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: Morticia Date: 08 Jan 02 - 04:20 PM How about a traffic light party...all guests to come dressed in red, yellow and green? |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 08 Jan 02 - 04:42 PM We seem to be specialising in 'Invisibility cloak' dress parties - everyone keeps finding other things to do.... Ho hum.... LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: Hilary Date: 08 Jan 02 - 05:32 PM How about characters from the Rocky Horror Show, or the Blues Brothers ???? H |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: GUEST,Desdemona Date: 08 Jan 02 - 05:36 PM We just had our 6th annual 12th Night party this past Saturday; we have a theme every year, usually somewhat mediaeval/Renaissance. Last year's was "Beowulf", the year before Shakespeare, THIS year we did fairy tales & nursery rhymes, with some great results!

Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Jan 02 - 08:23 PM I don't know what you women do to dress up, but this song is a seasonal favorite amongst some of the menfolk. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: Sorcha Date: 08 Jan 02 - 08:29 PM If I come as Emperor Max, can I play like him???? |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 09 Jan 02 - 03:24 AM The conservative ones could always come as Rev. Dodgson :) CONSERVATIVE?? Would you say that about a bloke who openly ogles the daughter of his best friend, spends most of the summer with her and writes not entirely innocent stories about her?? These days we call that sort of thing molesting, and volunteer to string them up! Rev. Dodgson's private life was not all that a Rev.s should be!!! LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: Sarah the flute Date: 09 Jan 02 - 03:34 AM A Long time ago we did a political party. Any party would do .... leaving a lot of room for fringe candidates. One bloke came with a tin of peas covering his **** ... he had come as the Greenpeas representative. Then half way thru the party a bunch of "anarchists" claiming to be anti-establishment protesters raided the party. It was all good fun from what I remember! |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 09 Jan 02 - 04:15 AM At the Whitby New Year bash we always have a fancy dress party. This year was characters from comics or comic strips,Jude & Lynsey went as the Fat Slags from Viz, I wore a grubby rain mac and a name tag and went as Flash Gordon. Last year was Pantomime characters (very British). We've also had 'Beers of the World' and 'Characters from Folk Songs (and you have to sing the song)'.Next year may be Pop Stars of the Past could be a lot of Elvis's ? |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: Les from Hull Date: 09 Jan 02 - 09:08 AM I enjoyed The Beers of the World one. I got second prize for me Dog's Bollocks. Perhaps we could limit the pop stars to dead ones, or more generally 'Dead Musicians'. That could be fun. What do you think, Jim? |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: Gareth Date: 09 Jan 02 - 07:07 PM LtS Rev Whats his name as a CONSERVATIVE ! In view of what you say - Very likely. BTW Some years ago. When the Thanet South Parliamentary Seat was still held by now jailed fraudster and perjurer Jonathon Aitkin the theme of his oponents Xmas bash was Tart's and Arabs. And no he did not sue. |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: janey Date: 13 Jan 02 - 09:28 AM Thank you for all the ideas; we went to see Lord of The Rings yesterday and I have decided that folkie types would find that theme far too easy. I'm sure I've seen Gandalf at Whitby, a Dwarf at Robin Hood's Bay, Hobbits in Holmfirth and a few Orcs at Alchester. I shall report back if we ever get around to having the party! |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 13 Jan 02 - 02:14 PM Hey, I think I went out with one of those orcs!! Why not go for some of the Greek or Roman legends... all those togas! Or the Norse Myths.... characters from James Bond?? LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 13 Jan 02 - 04:17 PM £5.00? Are you insinuating I spend £5.00 on my Towersey dress??? LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: GUEST,skippy Date: 13 Jan 02 - 04:56 PM Lis, the £5-00 dresses my two sons as well as me! |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 14 Jan 02 - 04:38 AM Les sorry for late reply but I like the dead pop musicians or just dead musicians idea , although we could be evil and just have dead people or even dead politicians (or one's we'd like to expire like Thatch !!. On a personal note could you e-mail me the Pie Diet and Todger's poster !! |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: GUEST,Lyndi-Loo Date: 14 Jan 02 - 12:07 PM How about an "Act your shoe size not your age" theme, Everybody comes dressed as a child or a teenager. Very good for making your own teenagers cringe! |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: GUEST,Desdemona Date: 14 Jan 02 - 01:06 PM James Bond is a good idea, and topical, as they're filming a new movie (pierce Brosnan is, I fear, no sean Connery, however!). I'm attending a costume party next week as Emma Peel; the spy thing is always fun! |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: JudeL Date: 15 Jan 02 - 05:26 AM Love the song Joe, it'd be perfect for some of the fellas at next Sidmouths WIMMIN'S HOUR. How about it Cllr? just the song to go with your Margaret Thatcher 2 piece. Jude |

Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: swirlygirl Date: 15 Jan 02 - 02:08 PM Stationery... Sorry..i have a bit of a thing and dressing up as a giant stapler or paperclip would be heaven... xxx or why doesn't each guest have to dress in the style of another guest? that could cause some arguments!! |
Subject: RE: BS: what fancy dress party? From: GUEST,Desdemona Date: 15 Jan 02 - 02:11 PM A rather generously proportioned male friend of ours attended a party as Mama Cass some years ago, to great appreciation; just remember to accessorise with plenty of ham sandwiches---!!!! |
