Subject: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: katlaughing Date: 20 Mar 99 - 12:04 AM Talked to dad tonight; this is his latest request. I couldn't find it in the DT, nor at Lester S. Levy, so...here I am. He said it was still popular in the 1930's and he'd dearly love to sing it, again. Thanks, katlaughing |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: Banjer Date: 20 Mar 99 - 05:27 AM It seems Kat is playing the thread-name-game all by herself...Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics. C'mon folks I think we can help her find tehse lyrics without her having to go all the way to Colorado! |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: katlaughing Date: 20 Mar 99 - 01:03 PM Why, thank you kindly, Banjer! Doncha know I'm really into that thread name game thing! |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: Banjer Date: 21 Mar 99 - 05:38 AM Nothing found yet, just keeping this thought on top! |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: katlaughing Date: 21 Mar 99 - 01:13 PM Thanks, Banjer, Me, too, since it's for me Da, and all! katlaughing |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: Banjer Date: 21 Mar 99 - 09:09 PM Kat, have you checked out Colorado in some of the web search engines? perhaps there is site for Colorado that might feature some of the music connected with it.?? |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: Banjer Date: 24 Mar 99 - 08:54 PM Kat, I will be visiting a local shop called the "Attic Bookstore" this weekend. He has music that predates Noah. I will check to see if yur song might be among them. Is there even a hint of a clue as to who may have sung it? Any info would of course narrow the search. |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: katlaughing Date: 24 Mar 99 - 11:46 PM Dearest Banjer, I will call dad tomorrow morning and ask him if he knows anymore. I think he said it was still around in the 1930's but not sure if I am remembering correctly. Thank you so much for remembering this request. Since finding the Mudcat, when I first went looking for lyrics for dad, I've always been successful with the help of all of you, whom I am honoured to call by friends. If this guy has music that predates Noah, does he? ***grin*** Thanks! katlaughing |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: catspaw49 Date: 24 Mar 99 - 11:58 PM Not to stick my nose in, but I did want to let you know that I've been hunting too as I suspect others have. Just anything else might be helpful. And Banjer...if this dude's got a book older than Noah, it can't be on music. It is more than likely a book of that vintage would be a scroll on the subject of pears. Otherwise how could it have gotten aboard the ark? Damn, that one was really bad wasn't it? catspaw |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: katlaughing Date: 25 Mar 99 - 12:23 AM Catspaw, do ya' think instead of pears it might have something about fig leaves?***smile*** Thank you. I know, everyone is so good about looking. And, you! Between you and Big Mick, I'll put the tissue companies out of business. I am honoured at your words, Catspaw. On a day when I was glum from losing a failry full-time friend to her new job, I find more here, at the 'Cat, than I ever asked for or expected. I have always believed my heart is being healed. While I've been working on it m'self, I know that interaction, caring, and loving that goes on with people like you, Mick, Art, and everyone else on here, does it a world of good. Thank you so much. katlaughing |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: katlaughing Date: 25 Mar 99 - 10:46 AM G'mornin'! Just talked to dad. He said this song was on the radio, a lot, in Denver. It was sung all the time by a group called "Shorty, Sally, Sue and the Boys" who sang for a farm auction outfit in Greeley. He said the radio station was KSL or maybe KOA. (He might be confused, since he lives in Utah. I think KSL is in Salt Lake City, but maybe early on it was in CO?) Hope this helps. Thanks! kat |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: Banjer Date: 25 Mar 99 - 07:40 PM For the scroll to have gotten on the Ark there would have had to been two of them, I think...This guy has old books on many subjects, but his collection of old sheet music and song books and instrument instruction books is enormous. Whenever I seek odd and obscure literature or musical items, I start there. Speaking of the Ark, I just revived an old cassette that has on it, among other things the cute little song, The Unicorn. I think this version was done by the Irish Rovers...enjoyable tune and lyrics! Kat, I'll keep ya posted, I'll know by Saturday PM if I met with any success.. |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: catspaw49 Date: 25 Mar 99 - 07:55 PM Uh, Banjer...that was like why the subject was "PEARS"...like, you know, on the ark "Pairs" I'm sorry, I admitted it was a bad joke going in and now you've made me realize it was even worse...Sorry Banjer, I'll head back for the litterbox and cover a few other things. catspaw P.S. You revived an old tape with the Unicorn by the Rovers.....ADMIT IT...It's an 8-Track ain't it? |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: Banjeray (inactive) Date: 25 Mar 99 - 08:40 PM I did catch on to the pairs, that's why I said there would have been two of them...probably takin a worse pun and making it even worser, if that was possible in this case!Probably should take me own advice here and "allow slumbering canines to repose" No not an old 8-track, although there are probably still a few floating around here somewhere in the closet. I will admit that I made this tape from in one of my attempts to save what I have on some old records, and also be able to listen to and share the music with others in the vehicle. I know we are getting into the gray area of copyrights, but another way of looking at it is that the old music will grow extinct if we don't share it with the younger set, and these records wont last long if they are constantly played. Now that I have justified my obvious plagiarism I might extend a bit of advice to you, sir: Never admit to a bad joke and especially NEVER apologize for a pun, no matter how rough it is!! If it wasn't for us punsters this would be a very droll world! |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: JVZ Date: 26 Mar 99 - 12:20 AM I had a thread a few weeks back looking for the same lyrics but I had no answers whatsoever. I'm putting together a tape that I will call "Songs My Father Used to Sing" as a Father's Day present. I have an old recording of Dad singing it on one of those old record-making machines. He recorded it in the late forties and it is now mostly static. I'll give you what I can make out. Maybe it will stir someone else's memory.
Take me back to Colorada,
For to stay, for to stay,
When ???? ???? gets to howlin'
Where we are, where we are, There is another verse and chorus that I can't make out at all. Can your memory or your father's add anything to this Katlaughing. The tune is the same as to "We've Got Franklin D. Roosevelt Back Again" I don't know which song came first or if perhaps another one preceded them both. I would appreciate any piece, however small, that anyone could add to the lyrics that I could make out. Thanks. John |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: katlaughing Date: 26 Mar 99 - 12:29 AM WOW! John, that's great! I will call dad tomorrow and see if that jogs his memory enough to fill in the blanks. It will mean a lot to him just to get those. He does have an incredible memory; he knows so many songs, that he keeps remembering ones he forgot! What a wonderful Father's Day present! Between all of us, we will succeed, I am sure. Sorry nobody caught on to your earlier thread. Thanks very much to al of you! katlaughing |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: JVZ Date: 26 Mar 99 - 12:33 AM Thank YOU for bringing it up again when I had just about given up. John |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: Banjer Date: 26 Mar 99 - 03:56 AM Way to go John!!! Like Kat, I am relatively new here at Mudcat and I marvel at the feats that can be accomplished when a group of folks get together. There have been so many "rabbits pulled out of hats", so much humor shared, I wish we could find some way to pass this spirit of caring on to the rest of the world! |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: katlaughing Date: 26 Mar 99 - 08:13 PM Hey! Dad gave me some fillers over the phone and will do the rest when he actually sees the printed page. He also told me the next verse, but we didn't have time to go over it by phone tonite. Here ya' go:
Take me back to Colorada, She's a beatin' ol' Nevada,
For to stay, For to Stay, Colorado
When the old wind gets to howlin'
Where we are, Where we are, More later. Isn't this fun! |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: catspaw49 Date: 26 Mar 99 - 08:23 PM Wow Kathy...oh, yeah, that's kat (never let me know something like that)...Any Kat Your song is really coming together. Amazing place. I meant to tell you earlier though, if you want a large charge of what folk and the 'Cat are about, go to the "Best Folksinger I Know" thread and read Shula's and Art Thiemes posts on the 24th or 25th. They will warm your soul. catspaw |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: JVZ Date: 27 Mar 99 - 12:12 AM Wonderful, Kat! Dad's coming in tomorrow for a little while. I'll see if I can pick his brain without letting on about Father's Day. Thanks so much. John |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: katlaughing Date: 27 Mar 99 - 12:21 AM Good on, John. Between us all, we'll have 'er a'fore the weekend's out, fer sure! Catspaw, thanks for letting me know about the postings by Shula and Art. I just read them. That woman is a fantastic writer! Reminded me of the times when I was growing that we'd go camping and talk dad into singing round the campfire, under the stars. Didn't take much talking to get any of us started, though, including him! What's wrong with your personal page? katl NEVER KATHY!!! You onery scamp, you! |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: catspaw49 Date: 27 Mar 99 - 01:18 AM Stupid Computer doesn't recognize me and I have to thru the reset cookie thing all the time now. I notified Max and eventually it'll get fixed. Spent my evening adding a bit here and there to threads, but mainly writing a long thing on Cletus and Paw on the Alvarez guitar thread. Got to think where they go from here. Also working on ideas for Shula's queenship and what mileage I can get outa' that. Best thing tonite... Banj and I realized we might be twin sons of different mothers and attended two different high schools together. Gawd I love people who play along. BTW...be sure to say welcome on the right car, wrong train or whatever thread. Glad you're "better"...Much love, catspaw |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: catspaw49 Date: 27 Mar 99 - 01:23 AM Well of course kat, you already did post a welcome...shoulda' known! catspaw |
Subject: Lyr Add: TAKE ME BACK TO COLORADO From: JVZ Date: 27 Mar 99 - 04:46 PM Well, Kat, Mom and Dad both remembered Shorty, Sally, Sue, and the boys. The radio station was KOA. And here are the lyrics:
Take me back to Colorada,
For to stay, for to stay,
When the north wind gets to howlin'
Where we are, where we are,
I bought a little Ford machine.
Up and pay, up and pay, That last verse and chorus doesn't seem to go with the rest of the song that well, but it's a good one and that's the way Dad always sang it. John |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: katlaughing Date: 27 Mar 99 - 05:56 PM WOW! john, that's terrific....see what we'all can do when we put our head together and our hearts into it!? That's why I love the Mudcat! Thanks and I know your dad will be so pleased, proud, and surprised at what you are doing for him. Mine will be happy to get all of the words. THANKS EVERYBODY!!! KATLAUGHING |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: Banjer Date: 27 Mar 99 - 07:27 PM Way to go John.....Job well done! Ipropose now we turn this thread over to Catspaw so he can tell us all about the further adventures of Paw 'n Cletus |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: JVZ Date: 27 Mar 99 - 11:45 PM All yours Paw. John |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: catspaw49 Date: 28 Mar 99 - 12:38 AM Already done!!! I seem to be saying this in several places tonite as a joke..like kat called me Paw and I had to remind her he is Clete's buddy. Sandy Paton asked about ol Clete on the Alvarez guitar thread, so that's where it is. I'll bring it back to the top rather than link for your convenience...Why am I being so nice tonite??? catspaw |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: catspaw49 Date: 28 Mar 99 - 01:05 AM Sorry Banj...I'm still looking for the wandering half wits. I'll update you as soon as there's more info. catspaw |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: Jim Dixon Date: 17 May 03 - 12:29 PM "Take Me Back to Colorado" appears on the Spade Cooley CD "King of Western Swing," Collectors' Choice Music #39, 1997. Spade Cooley was apparently the bandleader; Jimmy Wakely was the vocalist. Cooley's style was to combine a big-band sound with western swing. The recording was made in 1951. It is also performed by Arkansas "Arkie" Woodchopper on "Old Time Songs & Square Dances" advertised here. |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: katlaughing Date: 17 May 03 - 03:41 PM Thanks, Jim. Fun to read this old thread, again. My goodness, Spaw was still Catspaw back then! |
Subject: RE: Take Me Back To Colorado-need lyrics From: GUEST,Clint Keller Date: 17 May 03 - 09:20 PM I seem to remember ...There's a gal that I'm a-lovin' Talk about your turtle dovin'... and ...Where it's at, where it's at -- I'll be gettin' up & under my old hat... But I don't know what goes with them. Maybe there's dozens of lost verses... clint |
