Subject: Lyr Req: Car 54 Where Are You???? From: InOBU Date: 23 Oct 02 - 02:56 PM OK folkies... you have shown your prowess in the past, but here is a real challenge for you... a bunch of us Quakes were taking the subway out to the Flushing Meeting (built in 1693... very cool...) as we past Jackson Hights, Richard and I said the Traffic is backed up to Jackson Hights, CAR 54 Where are you!? We were really showing our age, we were the only ones who remembered the show, and the tune but could not remember the rest of the words, something about Kruschev being at the UN, and a riot (up in Harlem?) Well, it was Fred Gwin, and another fellow... anyone remember the rest of the words? Cheers Larry |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Car 54 Where Are You???? From: EBarnacle1 Date: 23 Oct 02 - 04:33 PM I believe the line was "Kruschev's still at Idlewild." I think the rest is correct, though. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Car 54 Where Are You???? From: kendall Date: 23 Oct 02 - 05:25 PM the other guy was Gunther Toody. hehehe can't recall his real name. and, it is K is DUE at.. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Car 54 Where Are You???? From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Oct 02 - 05:58 PM Hmmm. These names are gonna bug me. there's a Gunther Toody's diner chain in Colorado ("Not just a restaurant but a place to eat"). I see no connection with Car 54. Where did the name come from? This site says Gunther Toody was played by Joe E. Ross, and Francis Muldoon by Fred Gwynne (later of the Munsters). Note that it's claimed that Ross played Gunther Toody in a 1955 striptease movie called "Teaserama" - could that be true? I doubt it, but I do wonder about the diner connection.... -Joe Offer- |

Subject: Patty Duke Show theme song From: Mark Cohen Date: 23 Oct 02 - 11:34 PM Well I remembered it...but that doesn't do me much good now, does it? My only way to save face is to tell y'all that the airport's name was spelled Idyllwild. How about The Patty Duke Show? Our Cathy has been most everywhere, from Zanzibar to Barkley Square But Patty's only seen the sights a girl can see from Brooklyn Heights What a crazy pair But they're cousins, identical cousins all the way One pair of matching bookends, different as night and day Now Cathy adores a minuet, the Ballet Russe and crepes suzettes But Patty loves to rock 'n' roll, a hot dog makes her lose control What a wild duet But they're cousins, identical cousins and you'll find They laugh alike, they walk alike, at times they even talk alike You can lose your mind When cousins are two of a kind Google? We don't need no steenkeen' Google! Aloha, Mark (And yes, I know the original line is "We don't need to show you..." |

Subject: Travels of Jamie McPheeters - Theme Song From: Bat Goddess Date: 24 Oct 02 - 08:41 AM Anybody remember "The Travels of Jamie MacPheeters"? I think it was only on for part of a season mid-'60s, but it had a great theme song: By river boat or wagon train Old Doc MacPheeters crossed the plain And on his mind, keep moving on There's gold in old California, There's gold in old California. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Car 54 Where Are You???? From: EBarnacle1 Date: 24 Oct 02 - 11:21 AM OOh, OOh I guess that's folk process. Of course the reason for developing writing and other recording methods was to eliminate the vagaries of memory. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Car 54 Where Are You???? From: Naemanson Date: 24 Oct 02 - 11:33 AM The Travels of Jamie MacPheeters! My sister fell in love with Kurt Russell watching that one. Was it really only on for a short run? I remember it fairly clearly. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Car 54 Where Are You???? From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Oct 02 - 02:00 PM I can't remember Al Lewis, but a Google search tells me he played Patrolman Leo Schnauzer. Don't remember him, either. Ooooh, oooh. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Car 54 Where Are You???? From: Bat Goddess Date: 24 Oct 02 - 02:10 PM Jeez, Naemanson. I fell in love with Dan O'Hirlihy in "Travels of Jamie MacPheeters." (I always WAS precocious.) Did you ever read the book it was based on? "Symptoms: absence of breath, no heartbeat, small round blue hole in forehead. Diagnosis: Dead -- of gunshot wound. Treatment: Folded hands on chest and placed coins on eyes." (Or something like that.) Linn |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Car 54 Where Are You???? From: bill kennedy Date: 24 Oct 02 - 02:18 PM THough Cathy was from Scotland, the songwriters were probably from the Bronx, & it most likely should have been Berkeley Square, though they wrote it Barclay Square, and pronounced it correctly as Barkley Square |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Car 54 Where Are You???? From: bill kennedy Date: 24 Oct 02 - 02:36 PM BTW FYI The Travels of Jamie MacPheeters won the Pullitzer Prize in 1959 for literature, the Theme song to the Tv series was recorded by the BEE GEEs and the Osmond Family, & Jay Osmond himself played a young character in the series |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Car 54 Where Are You???? From: Bat Goddess Date: 24 Oct 02 - 03:02 PM Yeah, and I've been spelling it wrong, too -- "Travels of Jaimie McPheeters". Several of the young Osmonds were in it: Alan Osmond was Micah Kissel, Jay Osmond was Lamentations Kissel, Merrill Osmond was Deuteronomy Kissel andWayne Osmond was Leviticus Kissel. I guess the show did last a full season (1963-64). David McCallum made an appearance before "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." Oh, and apologies to Dan O'Herlihy for misspelling HIS name, too. Linn |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Car 54 Where Are You???? From: Naemanson Date: 25 Oct 02 - 10:51 AM Linn - Yeah, I read the book and, if I remember rightly, there was a sequel that took Jamie into the swamps of Florida. |

Past a fighting minuteman, Past an armored knight, Past a Roman warrior, To this ancient site. It's about caves, cavemen too, About a time when the earth was new. Wait'll they see what is in sight! Is it good luck or is it good night? It's about two astronauts, it's about their fate, It's about a woman and her prehistoric mate.
