Subject: Hesperis releases CD From: hesperis Date: 22 May 03 - 07:22 AM Hiya! Due to the cdbaby deal that is on until the end of the month, I decided to stop "procrastinating" by trying to get certain songs "perfect" in order to get them on the CD at the quality I want, and instead release an album with a different lineup than I originally intended. So, my one-woman band, Between the Worlds, is starting to burn CDs tomorrow of the first album, "ONE". It's named ONE because it's the first album, but also because it is a collection of songs and instrumentals that come from the heart, from the One that sustains us all. The songs are pretty magical, and the album flows well. Several pieces have traditional or modern Sacred Circle Dances for them, and the dance notes and lyrics will be put up on the band website as soon as I get a domain and get the site done. 1. Stillness Within [3:11] 2. Lament for Flute [1:17] 3. Undersea Quiet [1:30] 4. Skylark [2:56] 5. Midwives [2:14] 6. Seal Woman [5:22] 7. Abundant Harvest [4:32] 8. Life Lives On [4:49] 9. ANRUKIMLO [1:45] 10. Joy of Angels [1:50] Midwives is a traditional tune from Romania, I think. Skylark has been heard by anyone who bought the Mudcat CD collection, and this album has three songs with my singing in them if you want to hear more of my voice. ;) Seal Woman is a song about an Inuit legend. Folkies who like Native American influences will love this one. ANRUKIMLO was named for the initials of the Nine Gods and Goddesses of the world I invented when I was seven years old, and this piece is very powerful and richly textured. Joy of Angels is a merry, toe-tapping tune that should probably be traditional! It's original as far as I know, however it is in an older style, almost medieval. I'm posting this thread to let you folks know about my CD, and also to ask how many CDs I should send to CDBaby on Wednesday. So if you want to order one from CDBaby in June, please PM or post. It will be $12.95 plus shipping at CDBaby. Thanks! Blessed Be, ~*sirepseh*~ |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: wysiwyg Date: 22 May 03 - 11:09 AM If you donate one of the first copies to the Mudcat Auction (autographed of course), it will generate some buzz, and I hope whoever here gets the first one will post a review to encourage others to buy! Hope you sell a zillion copies! ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: hesperis Date: 22 May 03 - 11:40 PM Good idea Susan. I'll see how to do that... Thanks, kat! Guest - I'll see about making an extra one for you anyway. There will be a few extras going to cdbaby than what is definitely going to be snapped up. ;) |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: Little Hawk Date: 23 May 03 - 12:04 AM Sounds good. I'll get two and see if I can sell one to someone else around here, but should I buy them from CDbaby or direct from you? - LH |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: hesperis Date: 24 May 03 - 08:30 AM LH - You may as well get them directly the next time you're heading to TO. Tinker - Yes, I'll post when they get there, too. I'm getting excited! Have a bit of printing and burning to do. I just wish I had another computer for that, as I need to work on the website too, and I can't burn and do anything else at the same time. |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: Little Hawk Date: 25 May 03 - 05:14 PM Ha! Ha! Sorry, just couldn't resist the opportunity. If I could arrange to have a 25-year-old body again...(sigh) Spaw is indeed a treacherous influence on susceptible minds. Something should be done about it. - LH |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: wysiwyg Date: 25 May 03 - 05:45 PM LH, that was what we call a "mandatory" in our family-- a line demanding to be said, for which there is no penalty to the one who says it first. Cuz ya know, SOMEbuddy's gotta say it, and the penalty wouild be if one FAILED to say it! :~) ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: hesperis Date: 29 May 03 - 03:15 PM I will be moving on Sunday, hopefully to a nice good and pretty cheap room although I don't have anything lined up yet... If it could be next week that would be good. Now that I've burned the ones that have to go to cdbaby, I'm packing. |
|
Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: CarolC Date: 29 May 03 - 07:26 PM Alright! I'm looking forward to this. Put me down as a definite. Is cdbaby a website, and if so, how does one get there? |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: hesperis Date: 30 May 03 - 02:38 PM Thanks, Carol! I'm just finishing up work on the website as well, so once cdbaby puts my page up I'll link from my site to it and vice versa. http://worlds.serpentgoddess.org Oh, and I need your address again for something else... please pm? |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: hesperis Date: 06 Jun 03 - 01:58 PM Well, Canada Post isn't that great... the package took five days to go from Aurora to Mississauga (why there???), and doesn't look like it's even arrived at the border yet. :( |
|
Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: Marion Date: 09 Jun 03 - 03:31 PM Looks like I'm the first Mudcatter to hear it! One is very different from the music I normally listen to, but it's a nice CD to have on. I think the soprano vocals are the most striking thing about it - a very young and pure sound. The tracks which stand out to me are "Abundant Harvest", for the panflute jig, and "Life Lives On", for the alternation between alto and soprano voice. Marion |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: Little Hawk Date: 09 Jun 03 - 11:37 PM Yeah, the Canadian mail system is hilarious. I think if you mail a letter from Orillia to Coldwater (10 miles away) it goes all the way to Mississauga (100 miles away) first, and then comes all the way back to Coldwater. I'll hook up with you soon on the CD thing. I've been very busy. - LH |
|
Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: hesperis Date: 10 Jun 03 - 02:44 PM Thanks, Marion! It seems as though everyone has two or three favorites, and they all choose different ones! LH - No problem, I had to burn more CDs anyway. |
|
Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: CarolC Date: 10 Jun 03 - 02:47 PM I was out of town for a little while, hesperis, and didn't see your 30 May 03 - 02:38 PM post until just now. PM on the way. |
|
Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: hesperis Date: 11 Jun 03 - 07:28 PM Excellent! If anyone has any difficulty reaching the site, it's probably a dns problem en route... To fix that in win9x, find a file called HOSTS (without an extension) and add the following: # Hesperis 66.246.108.52 www.serpentgoddess.org 66.246.108.52 worlds.serpentgoddess.org Note: if your search finds "hosts.sam" and not "HOSTS" then edit hosts.sam and see if that works. If it doesn't, then make a copy of hosts.sam and rename it HOSTS. (No extension!) You should be able to access the site with no problem after that. |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: hesperis Date: 18 Jun 03 - 03:04 PM CD Baby has the CDs and they're in the processing queue. |
|
Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: hesperis Date: 05 Jul 03 - 01:11 AM Well, CD Baby has had the CDs since June 9th and they're still in the processing queue... can anyone tell me if that's normal? *Sigh* I'm beginning to think I should just sell them through my site. |
|
Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: hesperis Date: 08 Jul 03 - 01:19 AM Sigh. Wrote a whole huge message and it wouldn't submit. Maybe tomorrow, because I need sleep! |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: hesperis Date: 11 Jul 03 - 04:56 PM I have my first gig tonight! Went to an open mic on Wednesday, and then they had a cancellation for today so invited me to perform with their piano player. I'm excited! Found out the reason it took so long for CD Baby to get the CD up, too - they had to make a change that made them have to re-enter the entire thing into the database. A little more communication would have been nice, but it was well done and the page looks great! So, it's up! Yay! Listen and get yourself a copy here >> |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: Amos Date: 11 Jul 03 - 05:34 PM Yayyyyyyy for sirepseH!! A |

Subject: RE: Hesperis releases CD From: katlaughing Date: 11 Jul 03 - 05:41 PM Good for you, darlin'! I love CDBaby and will get yours a little later this summer. Had some unexpected expenses come up and had to curtail my CDA: CD Aquisitioning for a while. I really admire your courage and your perseverence throughout the past few years. luvyakat |
