Subject: Black Mountain Folk Festival From: Ground Control (inactive) Date: 02 Apr 99 - 10:00 AM I believe there is an annual Folk music festival in Black Mountain NC but haven't been able to find any info about it. Does anyone have any info they can pass along to me? If my memory is correct, this takes place during the summer and is at least two days long. That and the fact that it's known by the town Black Mountain's name is all I have so far. |

Subject: RE: Black Mountain Folk Festival From: Dale Rose Date: 02 Apr 99 - 12:07 PM Here is a story about last year's festival. Though it is mostly about Laura Love, it also includes performer lists, directions, etc. There is a link to the Black Mountain site, which has not been updated for this year yet. Friends of mine who were there last year did not care for it in the least. |

Subject: RE: Black Mountain Folk Festival From: Chet W. Date: 02 Apr 99 - 10:00 PM It depends on what you're looking for in a festival experience. The last few times I've been there has been pretty much no jamming going on. The old-time fans have abandoned it except for the hard-core dance crowd. The rest of the attendance seems to be more of the new-age persuasion. Not making any judgements here, but it really is not what some people may be expecting, so if it's a long drive for you and you do love to play all night with people you don't know you might want to consider another one. Like the Mt. Airy festival in June or the Clifftop gathering in Virginia, I believe, a little later. I had some great times at the Black Mtn. festival. Didn't miss one for about the first 20 or so. Met my wife there. Sure is in a beautiful place. Hope this helps, Chet |
