Subject: Help a Granny in Canada From: parkerb@mbs.gov.on.ca Date: 29 Jul 99 - 04:19 PM When my mother-in-law was growing up in Uddingston, she sang a song at school (early 1930's). She can only remember a few words from the song, and nobody here in Canada seems to know what she's talking about. We don't know the song title, but the words she remembers are as follows: "Oh, Nancy's hair is yellow and (?), And her een are o' the misty blue" That's all we know. Any clue? I have written to all kinds of people and associations but nobody knows. The most common answer is "Well, it's not in the database". How 'bout being crafty and asking your mother, or your granny? |

Subject: RE: Help a Granny From: katlaughing Date: 29 Jul 99 - 06:30 PM hi, it works better if you include some words or title, if known, in the title of your thread. I have started a more specifically named thread for you here titled, "Nancy's hair was yellow-Lyrics?" or, here: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=12640&messages=1 If anyone can help, please post to the linked thread. Thanks and good luck. katlaughing |

Subject: RE: Help a Granny From: Margo Date: 29 Jul 99 - 06:35 PM Parker, I wonder if the song isn't Scottish, written in the Scot's language. Her een being her eyes. I know that doesn't solve your mystery, but if I'm right, it'll help you to look in the right places. I'm curious now, I'm going to check some of my Scottish song sites. See ya, Margarita |
