Subject: The Urban Folk Quartet autumn tour From: GUEST,Harvey Ivy Date: 11 Oct 10 - 06:50 AM www.theUFQ.com Joe Broughton has played with just about everyone who's anyone on the scene today but this is his first real band that he's put together himself and it has to be seen to be believed! The beautiful Paloma Trigas (who has a legendary smile!) also plays fiddle and is famous in her home country of Spain for her work with Spanish superstar Carlos Nunez. You might know Tom Chapman from Joe's Conservatoire Folk Ensemble or his work with Chris While, he is a percussionist second to none who plays a very unusual set up based on Cajon (not just another folkie playing cajon(!) - Tom has been featured on DVDs and in magazines as the UKs leading exponent and is sponsered by DG Cajones). Frank Moon completes the quartet and brings virtuoso playing of the Oud (a kind of Arabic fretless lute) to the mix as well as being a seriously funky guitar player! The UFQ played in half a dozen countires in their first two months of existence including winning the International Spanish Folk Award in Plasencia on their fourth ever gig together. Rave reviews of their self titled debut album have come out in the last few months which was released on Fellside May 10th. If you're going to see something new this year - catch this band! Ok I admit I'm biased because I work for Joe but I absolutely guarantee you won't be disappointed! If you've already enjoyed a UFQ gig please add your vote of confidence so that another amazing new band doesn't fall by the wayside, let's get behind amazing new bands not just amazingly promoted new bands!! Subject: RE: The Urban Folk Quartet autumn tour From: s&r Date: 11 Oct 10 - 06:58 AM Pleased to add our support. Joe (and his brother Ben) have been regular artists at Fylde for many years now. We were pleased this year to welcome Joe with the UFQ and can only say that it lived up to its promise. High energy, incredible music, good humour and fun. The band is not just a showcase for Joe's talent but is a mix of skilled musicians with a tight and exciting sound. Oh, and Paloma I think I love you. Stu |
