After bragging about how easy it is to find the words to songs from Digitrad ar kind souls in the newsgroups My friend said he was desparate for the words to a song called Judge Jefferies. Went something like - Judge Jefferies was a very bad man, sent my ..... to Van Diemens Land.

Embarrasingly I've so far drawn a blank it doesn't seem to be in the database and the newsgroups where I started were unresponsive. I did find out it was possibly on a Julie Felix LP.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in anticipation.

C Stuart Cook

Just finished reading Peter Beagle's Tamsen Is this the same Judge Jefferies who was sent to bring judgement on the folk of Dorset some three hundred years ago? I am not sure which parts of Beagle's book are fiction and which fact, but I get the sense that the judge was a real and rather awful man. As Beagle is also a musician, I wonder, does he have a website? Would he know this one?

Basically the Judge went into the West Country after the unsuccessful Monmouth rebellion and had free range to persucute and execute anyone he had a mind to. This he did and his name is still villified in the area.
