Subject: Mandolin Tunes and Songs From: Ebbie Date: 17 Sep 24 - 04:01 PM Long shot here! I meet for music with several people where we feature guitar, banjo and dobro. And mandolin. So, do you have favo(u)rite tunes and songs where the mando is prominent? |

Subject: RE: Mandolin Tunes and Songs From: Ebbie Date: 17 Sep 24 - 06:20 PM I just found one mandolin tune on YouTube that I already know: Mandolin Chimes by Bill Yohey. I knew Bill years ago in my hometown in Oregon; I believe he died a number of years ago. This is not a good recording -it's better in person- but it's a good tune. If I remember correctly he wrote it himself. |

Subject: RE: Mandolin Tunes and Songs From: Tattie Bogle Date: 20 Sep 24 - 04:40 AM If you like a bit of Baroque, there’s a book available from Amazon and other sites called “Baroque Music for Mandolin”: 25 tunes in it, and 10 recordings. There’s also another book of Bach tunes. |
Subject: RE: Mandolin Tunes and Songs From: GUEST,Jerry Date: 21 Sep 24 - 05:13 AM It’s not clear what sort of music you want to play. If you want to play popular songs, then you are more limited to the likes of Galway Girl, Maggie Mae, Mandolin Wind, etc, but if you want to get away from essentially chord based stuff and play tunes, then there are dozens of good tune books, largely derived from traditional fiddle tunes, but readily playable on mandolin (same tuning even). At one time you had to be able to read the dots of course, but these days many have tablature (fret fingering) shown. |
