Some years ago Tom Rush and David Bromberg did a duet at the Philadelphia Folk Festival called "Steamshovel." Wonder if anybody else remembers the song and knows if it has ever been recorded anywhere? Tried a forum search with no luck at all.
Any other 'Catter with info or a memory better than mine?

found this - by a group called "Granny's 12 gauge"

His name was Otis he was kind'a dumb

He'd work all day out in the burnin' sun

We did just what the mine foreman said

Sometimes we buried things that were dead

Steamshovel, bury her

Steamshovel, bury her

Down where her soul will sleep

Down where her soul will sleep

She once was pretty and she once was blond

We found her floatin' in the strip-mine pond

The foreman laughed and said, "There's nothin' to do

'Cept bury her and her boyfriend too."

Steamshovel, bury her

Steamshovel, bury her

Down where her soul will sleep

Down where her soul will sleep

Steamshovel

Steamshovel

Hi Mario - thanks but this is not it. The version I have in mind is somewhat bawdy, involving "The great steamshovel strike of 1956" and a freelance steamshoveling fool.
As played by Rush and Bromberg it brought the house down.
