Yes it is a very tricky question, especially when you see the price of duets.

Duet definitely isn't the way to go... too many systems, not enough choice of instruments.

English or Anglo are versatile enough in their own ways, and are much more readily available.

Singers tend to use English (though I use both!), dance musicians tend to use Anglo. Ultimately it's really down to which you 'fancy' - don't expect to play a concertina well unless you are prepared to have a love affair with it!!
