Subject: 50th Florida Folk Festival a Go!!!!! From: harpgirl Date: 24 Jan 02 - 02:58 PM IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO FLORIDA FOLK FESTIVAL SUPPORTERS:
Your support of the Florida Folk Festival made a difference! After much consideration, I am pleased to announce that Florida State Parks will assume production of the 50th Anniversary Florida Folk Festival. The Festival will be held as scheduled at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs on May 24-26, 2002.
Our decision was in large part due to the outpouring of support we received from you and hundreds of Florida Folk Festival supporters from all over Florida. That, coupled with support from Senator Richard Mitchell, Representative Dwight Stansel, and the Department of Environmental Protection Secretary David Struhs, allowed Florida State Parks to enthusiastically embrace the Festival. We are also grateful that the Secretary of State's Division of Historical Resources is providing much needed guidance and support to us during this transition.
Even if you are unable to make a donation or volunteer to assist with the event, we certainly hope that you will be able to attend this wonderful cultural event. The park, as well as the state's new Nature and Heritage Tourism Center, can be conveniently accessed from I-10 (Exit 43) or I-75 (Exit 84). Information on the schedule of events will soon be posted on our website at www.floridastateparks.org.

Subject: RE: 50th Florida Folk Festival a Go!!!!! From: paddymac Date: 25 Jan 02 - 02:44 AM Perhaps some folks will now think twice about demonizing Sec. Harris. Like any other elected official, she has a diverse constituency to satisfy, and not everbody will be entirely pleased with any individual decision. I think that her action on this specific issue demonstrates that she does indeed listen to citizen inputs. What more can we fairly ask of an elected official? |

From: harpgirl Date: 25 Jan 02 - 09:02 AM ...paddymac, I do think that 110k is a very small price to pay to appear as though one is not totally abandoning the folk constituency of the state. She capitulated to the Republican mob by shedding herself of this aspect of the State Department's realm, in my view. br> Soon enough I fear the DOS will be mainly concerned with corporate compliance and nothing else. Ms. Harris ignored my last letter politely requesting a break on the four hundred dollar fine they charged me for being a week late on my one hundred fifty dollar yearly UBR filing. I did get a letter from a clerk which was indecipherable in its meaning, however. But talking about Republican activity in the state of Florida with dear friends is like talking about firearms. I shouldn't do it if I want to keep any friends!!!! See you tonight for craic!!! |
