I've searched several lyrics sites for this (Irish) Rovers tune but without success so far. Perhaps someone here has them at hand. Sometimes I think I should come here first!

It's in the on-line guitar archive. www.olga.net. Do a search for rovers. Here are the words, though they're probably not going to be formatted properly. Go get the file from OLGA. Also, I note that the file doesn't mention: it's by Tom Paxton. Amazing fellow. :-)

WASN'T THAT A PARTY
Time: 2/2
Tenor: E
Bass: C - D

CHORUS:

1 * * *
Could've been the whiskey
* * * *
Might've been the gin
* * * *
Could've been the three or four six-packs, I don't know
17 * *
But look at the mess I'm in
* 4 * *
My head is like a football
* 1 * *
I think I'm going to die
* 5 * *
Tell me, me oh, me oh my
* 1 * *
Wasn't that a party

1 * * *
Someone took a grapefruit
* * * *
Wore it like a hat
* * * * *
I saw someone under my kitchen table
57 * *
Talking to my old tom cat
* 4 *
They were talking about hockey
* 1 *
The cat was talking back
* 5 * *
Long about then every-thing went black
* 1 * *
Wasn't that a party (CHORUS)

* 4 * *
I'm sure it's just my memory
* 1 * *
Playing tricks on me
2 * * *
But I think I saw my buddy
* * 5 *
Cutting down my neighbour's tree (CHORUS)

Thanks, Steve, for your help. The mirror site I usually use for OLGA has been closed down and I was having trouble yesterday connecting to the originating site for some unknown reason!

Hi. Got here a little late. The words from the Olga site leave out some of the best lines. Here's the whole thing as I learned it anyway. Where the words differ from the ones above, use the version you like better, I guess.

There are an A part and a B part, tunewise. I'll try to show which is which.

WASN'T THAT A PARTY

A
Might have been the whiskey
Could have been the gin
Might have been the three or four six packs,
I don't know,
But look at the shape I'm in
Head like a football,
Lord I think I'm gonna die,
But tell me Me, oh me, oh my
Wasn't that a party?

A
Someone found a grapefruit
Wore it like a hat
I saw someone under the kitchen table,
Talking to the neighbor's cat
He was talkin' 'bout football,
And the cat was talkin' back
Along about then everything went black
Wasn't that a party?

B
Might have been my memory
Playing tricks on me
But I thought I saw my buddy sittin'
Up in my neighbor's tree

A
He was playing a folksong
Sounded pretty good
Might have sounded better if his wife
hadn't made such a racket
chopping all my neighbor's wood
Might have been his woodpile
But I think it was his door
She must have got her three or four
Wasn't that a party?

B
Bill and Jim and Tommy
Went a little far
They were out in the front yard
blowing on the siren
Of somebody's po-lice car

A
So you see your Honor,
It was all in fun
That little old track meet down on main street
was only
to see if your cops could run
They run us in to see you
In an alcoholic haze
I sure can use them 30 days
wasn't that a party?
