I'm not sure how I missed out on Gabriel/Malicorne all these years - somehow I wasn't paying attention! But he came to the Philadelphia folk song society last sunday and gave a terrific concert - I was taken with the quality of his voice, his mastery of the guitar, his melodies, his poetry, his interactions with the two people accompanying him. It was a treat for me especially as a French-speaker, though he seemed to be having a similar effect on all the anglophones in attendance, as well. He's on his way to Minnesota, and then Georgia, and then California (check his itinerary on Gabrielyacoub.com) I'd be pleased to hear other folks' stories/experiences. Merci d'avance, Don

A friend gave me a gift of Gabriel Yacoub's album "Quatre" a few years back. The man's voice and Guitar skills are Wonderful! My French is not as good as it could be but it doesn't detract from the joy of listening whatsoever.
I envy you the oppertunity to see him and his fellow Musicians perform.:>)

I was lucky to see him perform twice. Malicorne is still a legend in France when you're interested in folk (rock) music. My favourite album is "Trad.Arr". He now produces album with flemmish bands and with Sylvie Berger.
Although he doesn't sing traditional songs anymore (or just one during his performance). He is still regarded as THE French folk music voice.
He said he used to sing american folksongs in Paris until he met Pete Seeger who said there must be nice French traditional song too.

'Bel' is my favourite CD of his music but he is such an excellent musician he does trad and contempory equally well. I think most of the original Malicorne recordings have now been released on CD. He was also a significant influence in a major 14 CD collection of French traditional songs released in the mid 90s.

All well worth seeking out.
