Tech: Cookie monster on the loose

I just upgraded from Norton SystemWorks 2002 to SW 2004, and ever since my cookies get wiped every time I shut down the computer (I use Windows 98 SE) -- not just my Mudcat cookie but also my Yahoo e-mail cookie. Any ideas what's going on here?

Norton may be set to "clear on shut down"... stuff like Temp Internet files, recent open files, log ons and such... that can be a cookie killer...

cookies are 'usually' browser specific....that is, they are somewhere in your browser cache, and settings for saving or deleting them should be in your browser...unless Norton has some instruction to override your browser.(I have an older Norton, and it never had any cookie control setting)
All programs have some sort of congiguration options, you just have to go into suspect programs and see what the defaults are.

If you're using Internet Explorer, go to Tools >>> Internet Options >>> Privacy. And check the slider for your privacy settings. It may have become set too high to allow or hang on to cookies. I have mine set to medium.

I don't know how Netscape is set up for that now. I haven't used that browser in a couple of years (it got too overblown and hoggy and crashed too much), but I know you can adjust privacy settings there too. Just check your options/preferences menu.

If you set things the way you want and it keeps getting reset to eliminate cookies, the problem may lie with Norton System Works, like BillD and Clinton said. I don't have that program, but there should be setting to adjust in that programs options. Good luck.
