Subject: Tune Req: The Battle of the Somme From: GUEST,Puck Date: 23 Apr 05 - 06:36 PM I have a favour to ask of some clever Mudcatter out there. The above tune I have on a CD by The Ian Campbell Folk Band and I think it is fabulous. Whilst in time I will work it out by ear, I would like to perform it next Thursday evening, and as I haven't played my instrument since I was in the sixth form in school some 39 years ago. Now for the problem I want to play it on the silver cornet. Can anyone help me please. Puck |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Battle of the Somme From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 23 Apr 05 - 08:01 PM A retreat march written by William Laurie (1882-1916). Notation is at the usual places. See, for example, J C's Tunefinder, which will return search results as midi, abc or staff notation: Battle of the Somme You may have to transpose to a suitable key, of course. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Battle of the Somme From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 24 Apr 05 - 05:07 AM puck - if you get an abc version of the tune from one of JC references, there are several utilities that will transpose it for you. For example if you have Windows theres ABCTools. Open the abc tune, select Headers/Transpose Key Signature, fill in the details and the transposed version will be on the Results tab. (this program is just a simple self-extract install, nothing else needs to be done). If you're using a Mac let me know and I'll try and recommend something for that. Mick |
