Subject: New Sea Poetry Column From: Charley Noble Date: 02 Dec 05 - 03:05 PM If you're interested in old sea poetry, with the original words, there's not a better website than Oldpoetry.com You can find nautical poems there by Cicely Fox Smith, John Masefield, Robert Louis Stevenson and many others. Major poets have their own page with a short bio. Recently, I've been collaborating with Mudcat's Shantyfreak to create a new column which provides a general introduction to nautical poetry and links to specific poems. If you'd like to view this column and experiment with the links: Click here! The column is actually on Allpoetry, sister website to Oldpoetry, but the poems are posted in Oldpoetry. Not to worry. The website also permits placement of a graphic header for each poems and we are busily posting appropriate graphics from our collections. The website appears to be more stable than Mudcat which gives me something to do when Mudcat is having a periodic fit. However, be warned that the vast majority of people posting in the chatroom are concerned with new poetry. The website also has a bonus system for encouraging positive comments. You actually get points for being good! I post there under my usual Mudcat nickname. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: New Sea Poetry Column From: Charley Noble Date: 03 Dec 05 - 10:59 AM It's taken me some time to figure out how to navigate through this site. One can sort "old poetry" alphabetically. However, there is no such option, apparently, for contemporary poetry. Also when sorting, "the" and "a" are considered part of the title. As a new free member you can add your own poems but it's only the volunteer staff who can add the work of "old" poets, those who have died and their copyright protection has expired. Not only do you get points for applauding other people's work, but you even get the option of picking from several silly applauding cartoon faces. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
