Subject: Irish Night at Hudson River in German TV From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 08 Apr 06 - 01:13 PM Today I zapped into a part of a feature about the Hudson in German TV which was produced in 2005. An Irish shop- and pubkeeper named Jim was shown celebrating Irish nights regularly with friends and guests - lots of best folk. The name of the place I had missed, but is at the banks of the Hudson. I shouldn't be astonished if mudcatters were present. Any participants out there able to release information? |

Subject: RE: Irish Night at Hudson River in German TV From: Margaret V Date: 11 Apr 06 - 02:38 AM Wilfried, the place is called Guinan's (after Jim Guinan, the owner). It's in Garrison, NY, in a tiny little space that serves as both pub and general store, right by the train station that serves this tiny hamlet. I used to go regularly and was one of the musicians, but due to a rather more hectic life than would be my ideal, I haven't been for quite a long time now. But when I was going, the musicians were a friendly, motley lot, with a big range, from beginners just learning their instruments and the tunes all the way to some pretty famous, hugely talented folk. Mr. Guinan is a hospitable landlord, and the session is always held the first Thursday after the full moon. In fact, a friend and I were just wondering if we could manage a visit this very Thursday. If we go, I'll give you an update. Margaret |
