How's that? |

Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 15 Sep 02 - 07:10 PM 14. On Top of Old Smoky ????? |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: greg stephens Date: 15 Sep 02 - 07:14 PM 2 points to Mary from Kentucky, zero the rest, so far. keep 'em coming. |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: khandu Date: 15 Sep 02 - 08:44 PM #11 also "On top of old Smokey"? khandu |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: greg stephens Date: 15 Sep 02 - 08:51 PM Nope, sorry pardner. |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: greg stephens Date: 15 Sep 02 - 08:54 PM Well I'm feeling so sorry for you, nokhandu, I'll give you a hint. That clue youre working on, the old forum search facility using key phrases often works a treat. |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: khandu Date: 15 Sep 02 - 09:05 PM Well, whaddaya expect! The sun is in my eyes, my lucky wife has a headache, and my hemmorhoids are aflame. And now I am referred to as "nokhandu". This has not been a great day!! :-P khandu |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: khandu Date: 15 Sep 02 - 10:10 PM Okay, got it... Looking out for daredevils. That must be, "She'll be comin' round the mountain". Why? I'll tell ya why. Somebody driving six white horses while coming round the mountain has got to be a daredevil and you better watch out for her! There, by God! And...#20 must be "Down in the Valley", not that I know anything about Middlesborough but if it is the opposite of the rest of the quiz and the rest of the quiz is about mountains then the opposite must be about valleys. Now, I submit to you, Mr. greg, I may not be literally correct in my responses but I am logically correct!!!! Take that!!! khandu |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: greg stephens Date: 15 Sep 02 - 10:22 PM Well khandu youre trying hard, but you aint there yet. Now I bet youve got one of these newfangled computer things. If youre thinking about "mountain" and "daredevils" and your feeble brain is not up to making the connection, let a computer search do it for you.And as regards "Down in the valley": you're on the right track about the answer being something more along the lines of a valley rather than a mountain. Just translate the distance in the clue into American usage, and maybe change the town spelling from English to American. |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: khandu Date: 15 Sep 02 - 10:38 PM Okay, just a guess without looking up or translating anything...Red River Valley. khandu |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: greg stephens Date: 15 Sep 02 - 10:43 PM no.try harder. |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: GUEST,Bman Date: 15 Sep 02 - 11:36 PM Well, #2 is Sweet Betsy from Pike, I think. Maybe. |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: greg stephens Date: 16 Sep 02 - 04:46 AM I'll do a recap here, as things got a little clouded with conversations with Khandu. Questions answered correctly so far: 2) (Sweet Betsy from) Pike 9) Rocky Top 11) (On top of) Old Smoky So get your boots and ropes on and lets have the rest. |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 16 Sep 02 - 05:21 AM 12. In the Hall of the Mountain King ????? |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: greg stephens Date: 16 Sep 02 - 08:42 AM Not the hall of the mountain king. That was PeerGynt, this is Piers: medieval England is where we might be looking. And not Edward II's little pal Piers Gaveston, another famous Piers, even though he was only an agricultural worker. |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: The Walrus at work Date: 16 Sep 02 - 08:48 AM Greg, That sounds like "Piers Ploughmam". Walrus |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: The Walrus at work Date: 16 Sep 02 - 08:55 AM 18 Looks as if it should be either ; A)"Indian soil" "Were I laid on Greenlan's coast..." & "Were I sold on Indian soil..." or
B)"Egypt's burning strand..." Waltrus |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: greg stephens Date: 16 Sep 02 - 09:04 AM Walrus, you are in the right area on both, but you have to pick an answer that fits the overall theme. Suggest you think where Piers was dreaming for (12), and look a little nearer the end of the Gay song for(18). |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 16 Sep 02 - 09:09 AM 11. Road to the Isles American version ??????? |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: The Walrus at work Date: 16 Sep 02 - 09:15 AM Greg, I'll have to search for the Piers Ploughman reference, but from your note, 18) must then be "Over the Hills and Far away" Walrus |
Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: greg stephens Date: 16 Sep 02 - 09:40 AM "Over the hills and far away" indeed it is. "Road to the Isles" is wrong, I'm afraid,Mary inKentucky. This quiz definitely isnt about isles. |

Subject: RE: QUIZ: friends in high places From: greg stephens Date: 16 Sep 02 - 12:50 PM A brilliant run of 4 correct puts BanjoRay well into the lead, but with 11 still to be answered the prize is still wide open.
