Lyr Req: Balkan song?

Subject: Lyrics for Balkan song?

Looking for lyrics to a tune in 7/8 (3+3+2) timing, all I can remember is "Mooma Moma" (mo-o-ma mo-ma). I know that It is a fairly well known tune in Balkan/international circles, could download a MIDI file if it would help. Oh! and a translation would also be ever so nice. Thanks for your help.

Polegnala ye Tudoro, moma Tudoro, Tudoro.... does this sound familiar? It's on a Volvo or BMW commercial; I think NPR used it in the 80's as "filler". I have the music but don't know how to post it here. Maybe it's time I learn. Email me, BobJ, if you want it. Ani

Of course, it could also be Sto mi e milo which has the words "momi mamo"... or any number of other Balkan songs! Can you be more specific? Allison

Polegnala e tudoro is actually in 15/16, if I remember my music for it. The problem with the initial request is that "Moma Moma" pops up in Bulgarian songs the way "way! hey" pops up in sea chanteys. Knowing thw tune via midi may be our only hope of identifying it.

The most beautiful version ever recorded is by thePennywhistlers -- and the album (a cherished favorite of mine for 20 years) includes a printout of the lyrics!

By the way, you might have noticed that slavic songs sung by women have suddenly becaome very popular in the background music to TV shows like "Xena" - and even some car commercials (one of which includes "Tudora")
