Wondered if anyone who uses MySpace Music has had a chance to try the new Music Store they are offering.

If I've read it all correctly, it lets you list up to 1000 tracks that are sold as downloads from your MySpace page. SnoCap (the company providing the service to MySpace users, www.snocap.com) gets 0.39 (US) for each download and you get (usually) 0.60 each (you can change the asking price though). It's free for 1 year, then $30.00(US) a year thereafter.

It's seems like a great idea for selling downloads, and I wondered if anyone has had a chance to try it (although it does seem to be rather new), or has any thoughts on it.

Thanks!

Good to hear. Facebook opened up a Market Place today as well.

I have my Civil War MP3s up on the Myspace Music Store. MP3s take a while to collate and collect for - so I can't tell you how useful it is as a sales tool. It was easy to set up. My Celtic/Folk does NOT use the tool.

I-Tunes sells 10 or 20 MP3s for every 2 or 3 that the others sell, so I'm not expecting big numbers from the Myspace product. I may have the other tracks moved to it ... still thinking about it.

Snocap on myspace is free if you have your cd on cdbaby.com with digital distribution through them. I got a note from cdbaby telling me how to set it up and I did it a few weeks ago. I think snocap reports quarterly to cdbaby, so no idea if there have been any sales yet, but the sales on your myspace page would depend on traffic on your site.

I agree with Barbara that traffic is the key. How can you get it and sustain it to the masses without being considered a spamster? Some use bots and I'm not certain if that is exactly legal at that site. I know that I've been the target of spam on MySpace.

I'm guessing that the rest is a numbers thing as well. The greater the number of folks that hear your music via your site and check your page out, the more likely that some will like it and support it.
