Subject: Field Recorders' Collective From: katlaughing Date: 22 Sep 07 - 12:50 AM This only came up twice, in separate threads, so I figured it deserved a thread of its own. I found it while looking for answers to one of the Musical Traditions quiz questions: Field Recorders' Collective. Some really neat stuff. |

Subject: RE: Field Recorders' Collective From: Stilly River Sage Date: 04 May 20 - 06:10 PM This item was shared on the Facebook announcements by Janie, who is not on her regular computer right now, so I'll post it for her. She can add any remarks when she has a moment. This kind of gem needs to be posted here at Mudcat where others can find in their searches. The Field Recorder's Collective—Teodar Jackson – African-American Fiddling from Texas – FRC728 "Teodar Jackson (1903-1966) was an old-time African-American fiddler with deep roots in Texas. He was born in Gonzales County, where his family had farmed since his grandfather emigrated from Mississippi sometime after 1850. Square-dance tunes, blues, and rags made up a large part of his repertoire, but in addition he played a number of set-pieces that hint at something perhaps older, otherwise lost to our ears." |
