Subject: Need some submissions for my midi web site
From: Diane Marshall
Date: 31 Jul 99 - 11:11 AM

I have a catagory on my new midi web page called AMERICAN DISASTERS in STORY AND SONG. I wish all of you to submit any relavant midi songs/stories that you may wish. At this point, here is a song I'm looking for in midi form: FLOYD COLLINS (the Kentucky cave story about the man who died there). I already have the story, now I need to hear what the song sounds like. (I can do my own sequencing once I have the tune in my head--I'm an ear player on the keyboard). Please write if you can help. My web site address is http://www.geocities.com/~ohioweaver Thank you.

Well, Diane - there are three listings for the song at the UTK Song Index, so that means you could get it from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville Library (or maybe get one of the books through inter-library loan). The lyrics are in our database click here with reference to a wonderful-sounding Michigan songbook I don't have and hereby covet.
Watch this thread for a few days and see if somebody posts an answer. If you get a midi, please think about sending it here to the Digital Tradition database.
If you get no results, try starting a new thread with the title, Floyd Collins - MIDI request Good luck - I'd sure like to hear the tune for this song. Sounds like it would be a good one.

I've got a couple of Vernon Dalhart versions of The Death of Floyd Collins, and I am sure Gene does too. It is a real tearjerker. No time today, Joe, but I'll send you a copy, probably tomorrow.

Mom remembers the event well. We used to talk about it some as we played the old 78.

Done. As it turned out, I found the album within a couple of minutes, allowing me to do it today. So, Diane, it should be in Joe's hands directly, and he'll send it on to you when he can, I'm sure.

I e-mailed the recording to Diane. I hope it works for her. I'll post it on my Web site later, but my (Microsoft Network) Website is down just now.
