I'm looking for cds featuring black gospel singing with very audible piano accompaniment.
Ideally, I would love just one voice and piano.
I've been searching for such recordings and I'm surprised that there aren't lots out there when you consider that so many great blues/soul artists had a background in gospel. Lots of them played the piano, too. e.g. Ray Charles, Dinah Washington and Aretha Franklin.

Mahalia Jackson with Mildred Falls, accompanist.

Take a listen to Arizona Dranes, a wonderful sanctified black pianist, who recorded quite a lot of stuff for OKEH in the 1920s. Her entire output has been reissued on the Document label and I can tell you, it's pretty steaming.

THere's a lot of black gospel with piano accompaniment, but other than Mahalia and Arizona (who is definitely an acquired taste,) no individual singers accompanied by just a pianho come to mind. Gospel music is much more of a group creation. Even Mahalia's stripped down recordings often had drums and a stand-up bass playing with the piano. Her recordings are still the best suggestion I can think of.
