See video link. Really odd modal tune that I love and would like to play. But I can't get my head around the structure.

I can play the notes easily enough but the repeats are doing my head in. Is it just an A part and a B part being repeated irregularly? My brain can't follow it. What's the logic behind when one of the pair of players plays a part on his own?

Here's a Hanter Dro but as you know the naming of Breton tunes is somewhat mysterious. I'll let you make your own assessments.

This seems to be the same tune, with dancers to make sense of it. They just keep on doing the same pattern over and over - totally ignoring that odd hiccup (there are other hanter dros where you don't ignore it).

So it doesn't make any difference what repeat pattern you play.

And this (different) tune shows where the polyphonic stuff comes from and what happens when you mean the hiccup:

Hanter Dro it says

Wiki on Breton dance & link in Wiki to Breton dance music

We often dance Plinns that can change from Hanter Dro to An Dro and dances where the changes are sporadic because the musos like a larf - pilé-menu sounds like it could be one of those. And dances with three different parts where the tune informs you of the move.

But don't ask me I just wait for the music and watch others dance.
