According to Britannica:

"The origin of the limerick is unknown, but it has been suggested that the name derives from the chorus of an 18th-century Irish soldiers’ song, “Will You Come Up to Limerick?” To this were added impromptu verses crowded with improbable incident and subtle innuendo."

Anyone know this chorus, song, or tune?

Piper Willie Clancy sang these words to 'Will you come down to Limerick' (which is also often called 'The Munster Gimlet'

Kitty come down, come down
Kitty come down to Limerick.
I knew by the glint in her eye,
that she wanted a touch of the gimlet.

Might as well add that I know of no evidence that "Will You Come Up to Limerick?" was, as alleged, the name of an "18th-century Irish soldiers' song."
