Subject: Tech: Verifying ID by phone From: Cool Beans Date: 02 Apr 26 - 02:22 PM Often when I log in to a websites I'm often asked to verify my identity by typing in a numeric code they send to my phone. When I leave the website to look at the code I can never return to the page that asked for the code in the first place. Is there a work-around? |

Subject: RE: Tech: Verifying ID by phone (2-step verification) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Apr 26 - 04:25 PM You should be able to open a new app without closing the old one. On Android phones you can go to the bottom of the screen to a small kind of squared circle that brings up all of the phone apps. Go to the one you need, then instead of closing out anything go to the three little vertical bars next to the circle and tap it, and you should see you apps layered in a way you can touch the one you need and bring it back to the top to enter the number. Once you have finished tap that three bar thing again and you can swish the rest of the apps off of the screen (closing them) or use the "close all" button and everything is gone. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Verifying ID by phone (2-step verification) From: FreddyHeadey Date: 02 Apr 26 - 07:50 PM Yesterday I had this problem. I was on an android phone. The web page was on a chrome browser. I didn't close the browser; I went to my messages app to get the verification number; when I went back to the web page it had taken me back to the home\landing page, not the last one I'd been on. I went through the process again and it was fine the second time. I had this problem some time ago and resorted to getting the web page on my tablet, with my phone along side to get the text message. Cool Beans, it might be worth checking if you can change the settings so that the message will appear as a popup notification on top of the web browser? www.google.com/search?q=on+android+phone+turn+on+notifications+so+that+text+messages+pop+up+over+the+web+browser If you've only one device does it have the option of giving you a split sceen? Easyish on a tablet; I'm just trying with my phone,,, very fiddly but I can pick up a minimised app and drop it in the middle of the screen, resize or move it; then pick another app and do the same. Sorry, I don't have the terminologies to explain what I mean more clearly! |

Subject: RE: Tech: Verifying ID by phone (2-step verification) From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 03 Apr 26 - 05:40 AM I guess the idea of 2-step is that you have to use two different devices, in case one has been compromised. Many smartphones are infected with malware already. Best use a desktop PC for the actual transaction and a non-smart cellphone for the SMS. I for one place my smartphone deep in a drawer. They tend to listen when we don't want to be overheard. In one word, don't trust your smartphone. |
