Good news for all you Southpaws! Last week on UK tv (Channel 4, I think) I saw a kit to convert a right-hnded guitar to left-handed stringing. It's called SADDLE BOY and costs around £20. I don't know who makes it (except it's British), and I couldn't find it on the Net this morning, but no doubt someone can supply the necessary info?

It was a documentary programme, not an ad. The kit cosists of a replacement bridge that sits on the guitar saddle with requiring major open-heart surgery on the instrument, so you don't reduce a £1000 Gibson to something between an Eko and a Martin Colletti, and (I think) a replacement nut. Obviously it doesn't alter the internal bracing, so I expect the instrument would sound a bit funny compared to a normal left-hander, but it does mean you can have any guitar in the shop, not just the two lefties.

Steve

Well, having restrung two cheap classical guitars to lefty without changing the nut, I'd say if the kit doesn't include a lefty nut, there's no point. Otherwise you have enormous intonation problems.

Now I just play a lefty-built Ovation Folklore. Much better fit than restringing a righty.

Chris

Refresh

I don't care if you lefties follow this up or not - I'm normal, so it's no skin off my nose!

May I suggest you do it the easy way! go to Elderly's in Lansing and pick any lefty guitar you want off the rack, Martins, Gretsch, Gibsons, Taylors... you name it.
