Subject: Rafery's Pig From: GUEST,mike@bendenweir.freeserve.co.uk Date: 20 Feb 01 - 06:50 PM I assume this was a music hall song but I learned it at my mother's knee - well it was her 'party piece' Raferty's pig was a wonderful animal Built like a battleship sturdy and stout His impudence would have disgraced any canibal Ignorance written all over his snout The night he broke lose there was such a calamaty Women a screaming the men turning pale Running and bumping coliding and jumping And evryone making a grab for his tail I know a few more verses but I would dearly like some hints on where I can learn the rest. Thanks Mike |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rafery's Pig From: Genie Date: 07 Mar 02 - 03:09 PM Did folks ever agree on what the tune is? And does it matter? (Should we just sing whatever tune seems to fit?) Is there a MIDI of any of the usual tunes for it? Genie |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rafery's Pig From: MMario Date: 07 Mar 02 - 03:52 PM Irish Washerwoman and (despite what joe says) the one Joe points to seem to fit (for me). but I'd hate to try writing the lyrics out to the tunes - because I think I modify it a lot on the fly. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rafery's Pig From: Jon Freeman Date: 07 Mar 02 - 04:59 PM I've heard it to the Irish Washerwoman. I've just looked back at the other thread and Humomours of Whiskey also seems to fit... I'd guess it could fit a number of jigs... Jon |
