Subject: Help finding a place...
From: Tripp

I'm trying to find a place, one that also hopefully has a web site, that consists of as many of the following: * sells instuments * sells select music (blues, bluegrass, country/alt-country, folk, and general stuff that's not pop) * maybe even has an open stage with ability to record * sells coffee and maybe something light to eat

Sounds like a hell of a lot, but I'm looking for a place that more than just sells instruments, more than just sells cd's, more than just serves coffee with acoustic music playing in the background...I'm trying to find a place that does all or most of the above, and is a gathering destination. I may be off my rocker to think that such a place exists, but I'm searching far and wide and someone in a newsgroup suggested I check here.

Hope someone at mudcat can help. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Mudcat, Tripp.

What a great idea. Maybe you should start such a place yourself. Sounds like something that could become quite popular.

Not sure if they serve any food, but our Big Mick and others rave about Elderly Instruments. I have a wonderful mountain dulcimer and books which I just bought from them not long ago. I am sure someone will be along any moment now to tell you more.

Welcome to the Mudcat!

What you're talking about fits several music stores, specifically if you bring the food! I have a fun plce, VERY folkie about 50 miles from here and they sponsor events at times and will invite you if they know you. And when you drop in, the whole place is an open stage.

Where are you at anyway?

Hmmm. sounds a bit like McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, California. I went to a Mike Seeger concert there. I THINK they served refreshments during intermission, but they had so many songbooks there, that I had no interest in eating.
