I found this in the help forum from this morning:

I am a 7th grade student researching the 1900s. Could you send me a list of popular songs for the time 1900 - 1909? My teachers email address is

davire@wapak.org

If you go to the Lester Levy website

http://levysheetmusic.mse.jhu.edu/bibliosearch.html

there's a place to look for all songs listed between two dates. Wonderful site.

I sent an e mail to the teacher's address. Included links to this thread, the main Mudcat forum page and to Levy.

Not too clear whether the songs wanted were ones being sung in the 1900-1909 era or ones about that era. If the latter, a good one is Galveston Flood, about the disasterous hurricane that hit the city Sept. 8, 1900. "Official" death tolls range from 5,000 to 8,000, but some sources say the actual number killed was likely between 12,000 and 16,000. Great object lesson in the arrogance of Man.

cheers,

david
