I have this alert from a friend with a .EDU. college e-mail address. Don't open mail from ANYONE claiming new family pictures.

It erases your hard drive and mails itself out to everyone you know. If this is a redundant, sorry. Better to have a second opinion than no information at all.

Don I've just visited Jeff's link. I don't know if the warning you recieved was identical to the one there but, for reference, wording such as:

"Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would rather receive this 25 times than not at all."

is a pretty near guarantee that something is a hoax. It always pays to check up with a site such as symantec's though.

****ALWAYS**** check some authority before posting and re-mailing these warnings!!!!!..If it it a real threat, the expert sites and the news media will say so...You have no idea how much time, energy and server time is wasted while hoaxes run their course.

Get a list of several sites which track the truth of these things and GO THERE FIRST!!! I personally would NOT care to receive 25 warnings made up by some 17 year old practical joker with a bad attitude.

And if you think you DO see a threat that is real, DO NOT post the warning without a link to an authority that YOU have checked.
