So there I was, driving down the road, irritated and stressed over a stupid encounter with a retailer at one of our nations Marts. I angrily jabbed at the radio, thinking "This is stupid. What'll I hear on the news that's gonna cheer me up?". Out of the radio came the unmistakable sound of Barry Finn's heartfelt singing, followed by Kendall's warm and wonderful voice talking about the men of the sea! I pulled over to a parking lot and had the pleasure of listening to my friends talk about the music they love. Thanks, guys! You lifted my spirits all the way back up!
This got buried on the May Press Room thread, but you should be able to hear it here.

Thanks for the link. I'm glad I could brighten up your day! Maybe we could get them to do a whole show of this stuff?

Wonderful piece! Brought back fond memories of my shanty singing days in Seattle and Portland (the other Portland). I will try to make it to the Press Room this July, when I'm visiting Boston with my daughter.

I also just found out from that NHPR site about the recent demise of the Old Man of the Mountain. I did get to see him once, on the way to a cross-country ski day at Bretton Woods.

Aloha,
Mark
