To all musicians, poets, comics, story tellers and performers in Cheshire & the surrounding areas.

May I take this opportunity to announce the launch of Middlewich Open Mic Night (MOM). This will be a monthly event hosted by The Salt Town Poets, the first being on Wednesday 20th Aug. at the Boar's Head in Middlewich, Cheshire.

Some of you may be aware of MOM's predecessor Poetry and Pints? The idea of MOM is to open the forum up to more than just poetry. Whilst music was always been a feature of Poetry and Pints we are hoping to include story telling, monologues, comedy etc.

All will be made welcome regardless of ability. There is also an annual prize going to be awarded during the Folk & Boat Festival to the best performer during the year.

For more info. please visit our web site www.salttownpoets.co.uk & send us an email.

Hope to see some of you there.

Ian.

....And can I also mention the John Brunker Challenge Trophy competition which will be running throughout the year in conjunction with MOM?
John Brunker was a local school teacher who taught in various local schools in the Middlewich area from the late fifties until the eighties. John was a master storyteller and introduced thousands of Cheshire schoolchildren to the joys of the spoken (and written) word over the years.
The competition is a long overdue tribute to John. The best performers from the Middlewich Open Mike nights will be invited to a 'Grand Final' during the Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival in June, and a panel of judges will decide the overall winner for the year.
The winner's name will be engraved on the trophy, and there will also be a cash prize.
In accordance with the wishes of John's widow, Noreen, the prize will be awarded to an individual who has, in the opinion of the judges, put the most effort into their writing and performance.
Thus, there will be no restriction on the eligibility of performers. As long as your song/story/poem/musical composition is original you will stand a chance of being selected for the final.
We will be looking for the unusual and the original and the newcomer will stand as much chance of success as the seasoned professional.
The full rules of the competition will be on the STP website, which will be updated soon.
Thanks

Dave Roberts

The second Middlewich Open Mike (MOM) Night will take place at the Boars Head Hotel, Middlewich, Cheshire this Wednesday night (17th Sep) from about 8.00.

The first MOM went really well with some oustanding guest spots (we had guitarists, singers, poets & even a joke or two).

All will be made welcome by the hosts the Salt Town Poets.

More info. at www.salttownpoets.co.uk - you can also email the Salt Town Poets from there.

Hope to see you there.#

Ian (Salt Town Poets).
