SING FOR SOMEONE ELSES SUPPER

Is beginning to gain a bit of momentum. The idea is to raise a few quid at one (or more) of your musical events to aid victims of famine in Africa. Please think about doing something to help these people - children are dying every few seconds.

As you can see from the web page www.singforsomeoneelsessupper.ukart.com over £500 has been raised already and is now winging it's way over to Africa ear-marked for use for immediate famine relief.
Nice to see that other people are getting on board - see The Forum, Total & Correspondence pages for details.

Again I would like to make it clear - DON'T SEND ANY MONEY TO ME (TROUBLE at' MILL or GREGSON LANE FOLK CLUB) I/we are not a charity and there are already several reputable Aid Agencies who can take your money. I personally use CAFOD but OXFAM, CHRISTIAN AID, BAND AID etc do pretty much the same thing.

Just let me know how much you have raised - what you did to raise it and to which agency the money was paid.

I can then add this information to the page and let the world see that Grass Roots Musicians and lovers of Folk music care.

If you decide to run an event please add it to the calendar

So far there has been :-
1 Concert specifically for the cause - in Harrow
1 Raffle & Encore Collection at a Ken Nicol Night at Gregson Lane Folk Club
1 Encore Collection at a Robb Johnson Night at Gregson Lane Folk Club
1 Whiskey Roll at a Trouble at' Mill concert (I mentioned to the organiser about SFSES and he arranged for the 'roll' during the interval).

I have three small events planned for September and am currently looking fo a big venue for something special.

Several other clubs have said that they will do something and some artists have stated that they will be available to support events (again see 'Correspondence & The forum).

So if you can't run an event - please consider a raffle, or a collection - we've found that passing the pot round during an encore works wonders.

If you decide to do something and you want me to link to your page - let me know.

Thanks for putting up with my continuous harping on about this subject but think about - next time you spend three quid on a pint and a bag of crisps - it could feed an African family for a week.

Graham Dixon

Many folkies will remember that in 1985 there was a Folk Against Famine movement, with collections made at numerous festivals and folk clubs.
The money was sent as a specific donation from the Folk movement and was acknowledged to us, rather than being amalgamated into the general pot held by Bono and other pop stars.
Could we not do the same this year, with our own bank account to which collections could be paid?
Colyn.
