Hi, I've recently uncovered a memory about an album I used to listen to as a child. The group was called The 3D's and they did songs like "Jaberwalky" and others I can't remember the name of now. There were 3 or 4 people in the group I think. In all the moving over the years, I've lost the album and only have a cassette copy of it. I'd dearly love to find this album again somewhere. Do any of you out there have a recollection of this group? Thanks in advance for any help!

There was an LDS (Mormon) folk group called the 3D's (a trio, each of whom had a name with initial D). They were sort of a Mormon Kingston Trio from the mid-60's. I've got one album of theirs around the house somewhere. If you think it's likely this is the group you want, I'll look for more information.

I saw the group in concert while in college in Naperville , Illinois. Great show they put on at the time ( or maybe I was starved for entertainment and not too critical). Below is a response to a query about a month ago referring to the album that you mentioned. I still have that record as LP. Recently I ran across 2 other albums of theirs in a used record store. I bought one "I Won't Be Worried Long". The other was a collection of what might best be called Sunday School songs that I did not buy. Sorry, not that one, but I am familiar with "Gunga Din" as recorded in the mid 60's by a Utah based trio, The Three D's. Their most interesting album was "New Dimensions in Folk Songs" (CApitol T2171) on which they set a number of poems to music. Besides "Gunga Din" there was "Jabberwocky" (Lewis Carroll), "The Vinegar Man" (Ruth Comfort Mitchell), "Crayon Box" (derived from Colors by Christina Rossetti), Annabel Lee (Edgar Allan Poe), The Highjwayman (Alfred Noyes), Soft Rain (Sara Teasdale), Richard Cory (Edward Arlington Robinson), "Charge of the Light Brigade" (Tennyson), Riddling Knight (Anon.). It would be interesting to know hw the tunes varied or were similar. The Three D's version of Highwayman, is quite different from Phil Och's. Likewise their version of Annabel Lee and one recorded by Joan Baez are also different.
