i am looking for folk songs dealing with domesticity. i am interested in songs dealing with ironing or laundry, and even better it they are from louisiana or the american south.. though any other references would be appreciated. thank you!

Well, there's "Dashing Away with the Smoothing Iron", but I'm afraid it's nt from Louisiana or any other bit of the deep south.

This from the DT, again not American I'm afraid.

By the time I'd typed out the words, Greg had already come up with the same suggestion. Agreed, it is not specifically about Louisiana, but here are the words anyway.

DASHING AWAY WITH THE SMOOTHING IRON

'Twas on a Monday morning
When I beheld my darling,
She looked so neat and charming
In ev'ry high degree
She looked so neat and nimble-o
A-washing of her linen-o
Dashing away with the smoothing iron
Dashing away with the smoothing iron
Dashing away with the smoothing iron
She stole my heart away

'Twas on a Tuesday morning
When I beheld my darling,
She looked so neat and charming
In ev'ry high degree
She looked so neat and nimble-o
A-hanging out her linen-o
Dashing away with the smoothing iron
Dashing away with the smoothing iron
Dashing away with the smoothing iron
She stole my heart away

'Twas on a Wednesday morning
....................
A-starching of her linen-o
Dashing away ..........

'Twas on a Thursday morning
....................
Ironing of her linen-o
Dashing away ..........

'Twas on a Friday morning
....................
A-folding of her linen-o
Dashing away ..........

'Twas on a Saturday morning
....................
Airing of her linen-o
Dashing away ..........

'Twas on a Sunday morning
....................
A-wearing of her linen-o
Dashing away ..........

If I'd taken the time to look in the DT, I wouldn't have wasted my time typing the words in the first place.
