I have been searching the Internet, including clearwater.org, for an in-depth history of the sloop and the festival (other than the basics, like founding year and that the original name was the Great Hudson River Revival). Any ideas? Thanks.

Russ

The name still is the Great Hudson River Revival, that has never chanced since the first one in 1978.

The clearwater website gives the most in depth history that I am aware of, but I am sure there are some others that will know a bit more.

I was at the first festival and it was an amazing event.

Actually, the original name was the Hudson Valley Folk Picnic, held on one of the publicly operated estates along the Hudson. It evolved into the Revival, at which time the numbering started over. As Ron says, the information is available, largely on line.

If you wish to spend time digging in the archives, call 845 454 7673 and they will probably be pleased to make arrangements for you to visit the office. Ask Amy to help you get things rolling.

We are now taking applications for volunteers for the festival on a first come first served basis.

Come visit me and some of the other Sloop Singers at the Working Waterfront or scattered around the site. Pete generally hangs out at the Environmental Village. A prime spot is at the Sloop Club tent and at the various smaller stages.

Thanks for the info. I have ridden on the Clearwater since I spoke babytalk and have been going to the festival since around that time as well. I am actually writing a song about Clearwater and I only have the first verse written, which is why I was looking for more details. (I plan on sending it to Sing Out!.) Thanks for your help!

Russ
