Living over the other side of the pond from him, I have never seen him in the flesh, so to speak, but there is a singer/songwriter from Rhode Island called JON CAMPBELL. I saw a picture of him here on Mudcat among photos of performers at Mystic Seaport Festival. That face quite bowled me over. This is one lovely man ! Aaaah...can but dream....

Reading his face in the photo and discovering the good things people say on here about him and his song lyrics, he looks to me to be someone with a lot of fun in him and many stories to tell....I've not heard the songs yet, just read some of the lyrics - want to see if I can get hold of one of his recordings over here.

I know I'm being picky and I got a good bollocking on another thread for saying this but Emmylou Harris, fantastic though she may be, is a COUNTRY artiste, not a folk singer.

And Kathryn Tickell's a fiddler/piper - she dunt sing! (Well maybe in the bath). But she IS gorgeous.

Ive never seen Kate Rusby in person but I think shes beautiful from the pictures Ive seen .
                I remember all the New England girls swooned when Alister Anderson came on tour ( this was in the 70's ) . I remember three young weman I had the luck to be sitting with at a folkway concert Alister did in Peterbough Nh .. There should have been drool buckets handed out before the concert .
                Its so nice for people like me that good looks arent a prerequazit ( SP??) for playing out . I never would have seen a stage >

I have to point out that the title of this thread should have read "Who's the best looking folksinger?" What do you want to bet that the person who launched it will someday launch another one saying something like "Folksinger who's guitar playing is the best?"

As for now...well, it's always changing. There'll be a new "best" one next week, probably. Emmy Lou, of course, is right up there...and there are some types of country music which ARE folk music.
