Subject: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Ron Davies Date: 01 Apr 10 - 07:53 AM Thoughts re: Discovery's plan for this show? Seems obvious to me this is geared to making dear Sarah more soft and cuddly--"humanizing her"---thus attracting many who don't go into her actual political stands. It's a brilliant move on her part. And yet another example of why Mudcatters and other left-of-center folks had best start taking her seriously-- as the dangerous opponent she is--not the butt of their feeble japes. Subsequent thread: Sarah Palin's 'Nature Show' |

Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Riginslinger Date: 01 Apr 10 - 10:24 AM It's a lot like what General Electric did for Ronald Reagan. |

Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Ebbie Date: 01 Apr 10 - 12:21 PM Has anyone else noticed that her voice has become increasingly strident and higher pitched? She uses a microphone but shouts into it. I tuned in to part of her speech at the McCain rally and it is almost impossible to listen to her. I think she is getting extremely bad advice from her 'handlers'. |

Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Alice Date: 01 Apr 10 - 01:01 PM Even if the scenery of Alaska on the show would be beautiful to watch, her voice is so grating and annoying, I would have to turn the sound off. I'm really disappointed in the Discovery Channel for doing this. A show about Alaska, fine, but they are going after ratings from the Fox viewers - promoting Sarah Palin when, as a narrator, she will sound like fingernails on a chalkboard. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Riginslinger Date: 01 Apr 10 - 01:11 PM Fingernails on a chalkboard gets one's attention, though. |

Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Jack the Sailor Date: 01 Apr 10 - 01:33 PM I think, that the best thing we can do to defeat Palin is encourage her to run for President. Let her make her own mistakes. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Riginslinger Date: 01 Apr 10 - 01:52 PM Frankly, I doubt if she has any intention of running for president. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Alice Date: 01 Apr 10 - 01:56 PM I wonder how soon she will quit her FOX show. |

Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Jack the Sailor Date: 01 Apr 10 - 02:47 PM You know Rig, I suspect that Mrs. Clinton may not have if the Republicans had not talked about it for 8 years. |

Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Riginslinger Date: 01 Apr 10 - 03:01 PM I think Mrs. Clinton wanted to run very badly. Personally, I wish she had won. |

Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Ron Davies Date: 01 Apr 10 - 10:24 PM Already (per Defenders of Wildlife website) over 117,000 messages have been sent by Defenders of Wildlife supporters urging Discovery NOT to carry this program. If people feel similarly, there are websites which can make this point--or you can contact Discovery. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Ron Davies Date: 01 Apr 10 - 10:56 PM We probably need to find out which firms would sponsor Sarah's program and threaten to boycott their products. Hit them where it counts--in the wallet. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Riginslinger Date: 02 Apr 10 - 10:47 AM There's no way to attack Sarah Palin through the Discovery Channel without it looking totally political. So why would they listen? |

Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Alice Date: 02 Apr 10 - 12:46 PM News today on CBS about Palin's FOX show, "Real American Stories". They had to pull two archived interviews that the network had advertised without notifying the celebrities that they would be included. Palin may already have quit this project. CBS news 'It is unclear when or if Palin will host future editions of "Real American Stories."' |
|
Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Riginslinger Date: 02 Apr 10 - 12:58 PM It's hard to imagine the network would drop the ball that way. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Jack the Sailor Date: 02 Apr 10 - 02:17 PM Fox never bothers to pick up the ball in the first place. If they cared about "the ball" they wouldn't have Beck, Hannity or O'Reilly on the air doing the half-assed things that they do. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Riginslinger Date: 02 Apr 10 - 02:44 PM That sounds like a redefinition of "ball" to me. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Alice Date: 02 Apr 10 - 03:06 PM Sarah Palin's FOX show is getting ho-hum reviews. Here is a sample: "Ms. Palin, who mostly narrated taped stories about inspiring Americans -- a war hero, a philanthropist, a boy with cerebral palsy and his service dog -- gave a competent, but generic performance, as cheery and bland as any news anchor's in the mainstream media she deplores," wrote Stanley. Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Ebbie Date: 02 Apr 10 - 05:15 PM Oh, I don't know. Works for me: "So you, having a kind of a downer day being in a valley, to then have been at this peak now, Angelica, because of your selfless action," she told a young woman who risked her life to save a stranger. "So kudos to you and thank you so much." |

Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Ron Davies Date: 02 Apr 10 - 09:10 PM Sneering at a "feel good" TV program may be the mark of sophistication at the NYT, Washington Post, or on Mudcat. But not in most of the US. And not for President Obama, for instance. But that sort of attitude is a good indication of why Sarah is such a danger. Mudcatters who exhibit this trait--and it's interesting how by and large it is non-religious posters--show by this how far out of touch they are with ordinary citizens--and how they continue to underestimate Sarah. Ebbie has it right--and the rest of you should learn from her--and realize that this sort of program is exactly what will endear Sarah to large number of voters--and make her even more formidable an opponent for President Obama. Especially if, as I suspect, the program will be leavened with humor. President Obama has a great sense of humor, but it tends to be a dry wit, which fits his cool persona. Many viewers will connect with a warm Sarah. Another reason why we should try to make sure she does not get the chance to do something similar on Discovery. And as usual Rig has a wrongheaded interpretation--it is totally legitimate to try to bring pressure to bear by boycotting advertisers--and telling them up front why. |

Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Alice Date: 03 Apr 10 - 01:08 PM The Discovery Channel/Learning Channel used to be one of my favorite networks for the quality of their programs. This move to exploit Sarah Palin's FOX type ratings is something I criticize, because I don't think she is a good narrator (not just my opinion) or a good example of Alaskans (my opinion). It's obviously just a move to exploit her ratings, as I said, not to do an enjoyable documentary of Alaska (which I would like to see). What's next for Discovery? More big ratings names to narrate? Glenn Beck narrating a documentary show on Salt Lake City? Rush Limbaugh narrating a documentary show on Florida? To each his own on politics, but I don't have as much respect for the Discovery channel now because of the obvious reason they chose a narrator for Alaska who is just a ratings magnet, not a good broadcast voice. |

Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Riginslinger Date: 04 Apr 10 - 02:01 PM Wow! I'd cerainly rather watch something narrated by Sarah Palin than a show narrated by Oprah Winfrey. Talk about losing all objectivity... |

Subject: RE: BS: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' From: Jack the Sailor Date: 04 Apr 10 - 02:27 PM I like to listen to Morgan Freeman. |
