Subject: Ed Trickett: save the dates From: SINSULL Date: 15 Nov 05 - 12:40 PM House Concert in South Portland, ME on Thursday, May 4. I believe there is another tentatively scheduled further north for Friday, May 5. Some of you met him at the Getaway last year. For those who don't know Ed: Ed Trickett has been collecting and interpreting traditional and traditional-based folk songs for over 30 years, and has appeared on over 40 recordings and appeared on Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion and other public radio broadcasts. His repertoire includes a wide range of ballads, sea songs, songs of love and protest, and an occasional song of no consequence whatsoever. Ed Trickett is well-known to New England audiences, primarily due to his singing with New Englander Gordon Bok and Ann Mayo Muir. He accompanies himself on 6 and 12 string guitar and hammered dulcimer, an instrument that he helped popularize. Ed has a beautiful unaffected tenor voice that lulls you into enjoying a marvelous evening of music, as if joining him in his living room. Subject: RE: Ed Trickett in Maine; save the dates From: Big Jim from Jackson Date: 19 Mar 06 - 10:31 AM There are a few singers whom I can listen to for protracted periods of time and never get jaded with their voices. Tops on that list is Ed Trickett. He has the smoothest, easy-to-listen-to voice you are ever likely to hear. His choice of material is a wide selection of all sorts of interesting songs. Wish I could be there. |

Subject: RE: Ed Trickett in Maine; save the dates From: Bat Goddess Date: 02 May 06 - 07:43 AM Mary, what time? It looks like my best bet is to drive up right from work. Concert. Spend the night. And hit the road around 7 the next morning directly to work. (Argh.) Tom, of course, won't be able to make it (and probably won't be that thrilled about me being gone for so long -- from Thursday a.m. until I show up at The Press Room Friday evening. Is Bradfordian coming? He was at The Press Room last Friday and said his other stops in the area were to see Animaterra and Ed Trickett. Linn |

Subject: RE: Ed Trickett in Maine; save the dates From: SINSULL Date: 04 May 06 - 11:43 PM Everyone is gone or gone to bed. The silence is deafening. Ed put on a wonderful concert with a number of old favorites and many I had never heard before. He is a joy to watch. Talented, knowledgeable and oh so modest. Wish it could have gone on for a few more hours but everyone is off to work in the AM and Ed has a concert tomorrow and another Saturday. My favorite moments - a song requested by Kendall about love in old age and Richmond/The Last Letter Home. And of course "DArk As A Dungeon" with a new/old verse. We had a birthday cake for Ed and Kendall. Both received gifts. Kendall refused his outright. Have to see if Ed leaves his in the back seat of someone's car. 'Nite SINS |
Subject: RE: Ed Trickett in Maine; save the dates From: jacqui.c Date: 05 May 06 - 11:49 AM I would add that Kendall's gift was an LP by Twisted Sister. He just had to see the name to know that it was not his kind of music. We had a great evening. It is such a treat to see good performers in these settings. We've just seen Ed off on his way to Camden to spend the rest of the day with Gordon Bok. We've already told him to come back next year, and try and save us a Saturday night - we could get a bigger turnout as people don't have to work the next day! |
Subject: RE: Ed Trickett in Maine; save the dates From: bradfordian Date: 05 May 06 - 12:17 PM How wonderful to be in the home of Sinsull enjoying the company and music of a bunch of 'catters and the great Ed Trickett, it was a brilliant nite. You guys who didn't get here missed a rare treat. Thanks for the entertainment guys, thanks for the opportunity to meet Kendall & Jacqui & Bat Godess (again)and especially thanks for your hospitality Sinsull. bradfordian |
Subject: RE: Ed Trickett in Maine; save the dates From: kendall Date: 05 May 06 - 12:41 PM I don't do birthdays. It was indeed a very good evening. I've known Ed for about 40 years and he still impresses me. |
Subject: RE: Ed Trickett in Maine; save the dates From: SINSULL Date: 07 May 06 - 07:56 PM Update from Kath Westra???? |
Subject: RE: Ed Trickett in Maine; save the dates From: KathWestra Date: 08 May 06 - 01:52 PM Ed did a wonderful, sold-out evening at Bob and Beth Stuart's home in Rockland the next night. There was some stellar chorus singing--among the harmonizers in attendance were Gordon Bok (who sang/played several songs with Ed), Carol Rohl, Anne Dodson, Lynn Hickerson, and lots of other lovely voices. Funniest moment of the evening was when Ed and Gordon set out to do "I Knew This Place" by Dave Mallett. Gordon lost the words on the verse that begins "I REMEMBER EVERY WORD of every song I ever heard...." They both collapsed in laughter, and each time they almost got it together to start again, one of them would chuckle and they'd be off again. They finally got through the song in fine form, but not without a lot of laughter by everyone. Mary, you also missed Gordon and Carol trying to explain to Ed after the concert about G's interpretive reading of "Captain Kendall..." Much hilarity there, too. It lives! The next concert will be Joe Hickerson on Friday the 19th, also at the Stuart's. Anyone wanting to attend should let me know, since seating is limited, and we've already taken quite a few reservations. Cheers, Kathy |

Subject: RE: Ed Trickett in Maine; save the dates From: SINSULL Date: 08 May 06 - 10:15 PM Sorry I missed that, Kath. Ed has the words to Captain Kendall but I suspect that Gordon's delivery adds something. M. |
Subject: RE: Ed Trickett in Maine; save the dates From: Charley Noble Date: 08 May 06 - 10:22 PM Pleased to hear everything worked out, I'm now fully recovered from the wretched cold and Judy's about half way through it. We really thought long and hard about bring our cold to share, but it's not a good thing. Next exciting event is Sidedoor Coffeehouse in Brunswick with Roll & Go (proceeded by open mic) on Friday, May 19, followed by another Shanty Sing at Press Room in Portsmouth on Saturday, May 20. Be there or beware! Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Ed Trickett in Maine; save the dates From: maeve Date: 09 May 06 - 06:13 AM Kathy- I'm delighted Ed's concert went well, and so sorry to have had to miss it. Our evening in the emergency room was not a good substitute for music by and with old friends! Thanks for arranging the concert. Holly |
