Subject: Bedworth FF 23-25 Nov 2001 From: alanww Date: 07 Oct 01 - 05:20 AM What Mudcatters are planning to go to this UK folk festival in the lead up to Christmas? I shall be singing with the Shellback Chorus (along with one or two other Mudcatters I think). See you there? If I can just get this link to work ... Bedworth FF should give the details. "The holly bears a prickle as sharp as the thorn ...!" |

Subject: RE: Bedworth FF 23-25 Nov 2001 From: JudeL Date: 09 Nov 01 - 04:01 AM Is there lots of fringe stuff? and is there somewhere to park a caravan other than the official (pay for whole festival) site? Jude |
Subject: RE: Bedworth FF 23-25 Nov 2001 From: alanww Date: 09 Nov 01 - 04:48 AM No, I'm sorry Jude, but I don't think there's a lot of fringe stuff. Last year Snuffy and I went without a ticket and found that, if we had wanted to play there were one or two bars in pubs, but as singers we couldn't get into the folk club room over the main pub or the Civic Centre sings. We were reduced to going to the coffee/beer bar at the Civic Hall and having a sing with typically between 6 to 12 others. A few people stayed on for a while but most just called in between concert/ceili sessions. I'm also not sure of the options for parking a caravan, as it is a town centre location. Sorry to be the bearer of gloomy tidings; it would be nice to see you again! I went down to Sammy's Bar ... |
Subject: RE: Bedworth FF 23-25 Nov 2001 From: Trevor Date: 09 Nov 01 - 05:57 AM I've got a gig on Saturday night, but if anybody sees Mrs Lemon, would you give her my regards, please? |

Subject: RE: Bedworth FF 23-25 Nov 2001 From: Herga Kitty Date: 09 Nov 01 - 03:00 PM Jude Parking near the Civic Hall in Bedworth on the Saturday generally tends to be difficult, even for cars. Kitty |
Subject: RE: Bedworth FF 23-25 Nov 2001 From: JudeL Date: 10 Nov 01 - 09:16 AM Oh well, it was a thought. We may come anyway - it's just that having bought the caravan it seems a shame not to use it and what with one thing and another (such as other festivals, fixing the car and the trip to Germany) it seems to have been a very expensive year. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth FF 23-25 Nov 2001 From: Abuwood Date: 10 Nov 01 - 12:46 PM We enjoyed it so much last year, John wrote a song. Still I'm looking forward to a Shell meet BEDWORTH ON A SUNDAY(John Owen)Come day, go day, wish in my heart it weren't SundayNowhere's open, the wind cuts you thru', Bedworth on a SundayWe danced in the Civic on Saturday mornOn the stage with the audience belowWith six of the Morris who can dance and can singOur mistakes did not knacker the showCome day, go day, wish in my heart it weren't SundayNowhere's open, the wind cuts you thru', Bedworth on a SundayThat night in the Art Centre theatre we satAnd we sang every chorus and songWe drank real ale in tankards until none was leftNo one cared when the odd verse was wrongCome day, go day, wish in my heart it weren't SundayNowhere's open, the wind cuts you thru', Bedworth on a SundayAnd then to the Scout hut to sing some more songsAnd got our heads down for the nightWe never dreamed what the morning would bringWhen we stepped out into the daylightCome day, go day, wish in my heart it weren't SundayNowhere's open, the wind cuts you thru', Bedworth on a SundayBut remember in Bedworth at festival timeThat the wind whistles round the old squareAnd on Sunday morning there's naff all to doAnd you wish that you just weren't thereCome day, go day, wish in my heart it weren't SundayNowhere's open, the wind cuts you thru', Bedworth on a Sunday. Whyy did that come out lke junk - you get the picture anyway |
Subject: RE: Bedworth FF 23-25 Nov 2001 From: Noreen Date: 10 Nov 01 - 05:47 PM BEDWORTH ON A SUNDAY(John Owen) Come day, go day, wish in my heart it weren't Sunday Nowhere's open, the wind cuts you thru', Bedworth on a Sunday
We danced in the Civic on Saturday morn
Come day, go day,
That night in the Art Centre theatre we sat
Come day, go day, wish in my heart it weren't Sunday
And then to the Scout hut to sing some more songs
Come day, go day,
But remember in Bedworth at festival time
Come day, go day, There you go, Ali. Difference being, that this year the Shellbacks are leading the Sunday morning survivors' sing, so Bedworth on a Sunday 2001 will be THE place to be! |
Subject: RE: Bedworth FF 23-25 Nov 2001 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 11 Nov 01 - 03:50 PM Unfortunately any hopes I had of coming have been well and truly dashed by the Halifax building Society who seem to have this strange notion that there should be money in an account before you spend it! |

Subject: RE: Bedworth FF 23-25 Nov 2001 From: alanww Date: 27 Nov 01 - 07:07 AM Had a great time singing with the Shellback Chorus. My highlights were hearing Dave Webber & Anni Fentiman singing The Blackbird and then later singing it with Noreen at the Folk Club session. Magic! ... Pray never let me see the time that does not let me sing. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth FF 23-25 Nov 2001 From: Noreen Date: 27 Nov 01 - 10:35 AM ...and hearing from Dave Webber how such a wonderful, romantic song came to be written. *grin* (I'll not shatter anyone else's illusions.)
