Subject: Lesser known folk artists: Judee Sill From: GUEST,Jane thisisull Date: 27 May 07 - 11:38 PM I've just discovered brilliant, misunderstood, talented, tortured Judee Sill.. was on a bbc4 programme of old grey whistle test sessions from that era, carole king, crosby stills nash, joni mitchell, eagles, byrds etc.. what a fantastic talent Judee had, awesome. Never made it famous, so got depressed and died of an overdose. Couldn't help but ponder that she didn't make it because quite frankly she was very plain not at all pretty I wonder if that was part of it, you know how the record industry was and still is. Just ordered 2 of her albums anyway |

Subject: RE: Lesser known folk artists: Judee Sill From: GUEST,Jane Thisisull Date: 28 May 07 - 06:49 AM Yes it was 'The Kiss' that made me look her up, she was singing it on the programme, it struck me as a folk song with a classical piano arrangement. Looks like her albums are being reissued, they're on Amazon. Jane |
Subject: RE: Lesser known folk artists: Judee Sill From: GUEST,ritchie Date: 28 May 07 - 01:35 PM Judee Sill was famous and yes she was also a troubled soul. 'Jesus was a crossmaker' is a classic song from a very good album. Jackie leven sings a tribute to her on his last cd. I'm pleased thar people are still 'discovering her' well done, keep her spirit alive. |
