Does anybody know of any traditional music or dance alive and well in the French Pyrenees?

Les,

I live in the plain about 150-200 km from the Pyrenees and I get this French trad listing for the whole SouthWest by e-mail every once in a while which often mentions the departments of the Pyrenees
(09, 31, 64, 65, 66 - Ariege, Haute Garonne, Pyrenées Atlantique, Haute Pyrenées and Pyrenées Orientales).
Send me your e-mail address by PM and I'll send back the latest listing I got.
Trad music is no way as visible in France as in Ireland, say, but the Pyrenees is one of the places where trad resists the most
(esp. the Béarn / Basque country)

all the best

Seán Báite

Yeah - been in the area North West of Gerona and heard some wonderful music at fiestas etc. Mostly in the open air - not sure I'd want to hear some of it in a confined space! Go for it!

Regards

There is a melodeon festival (really!) in Arseguel at the end of July and Artur Blasco who runs it will tell you everything else going on.

I spent ages tracking down Habaneres (generally associated with the Costa Brava) only to find them in the Pyrenees.

Then every single village festival (August 15th is a good day) will have something.

PM me if you want to know more.

Dave
