Subject: What's Your Name? (not Lynyrd Skynerd's)

One of those things you try and remember but can't and it derives you nuts for a while..

I was thinking about a cover version of the Don & Juan song "What's Your Name?" (orig 1962) that came out in the 70s sometime. But I can't recall who sang it but I remember it getting a lot of airplay at the time.

I remember kind of an Everley Bros. harmony, but it was male & female, like the sort of covers of older pop songs Donny & Marie were doing back then. But it wasn't them.

And I can't find who it was on the Net anywhere. Anybody remember?

I'll bet you're thinking of a song by "Don and Juan". It had an ooowee chorus.

"What's your name?
Is it Mary or Sue"?

Well, thanks for that link, Wes. I never knew about that resource. It's a good one.

I went through 4 pages of artists recording songs titled "What's Your Name?" and I think the version I was thinking of was by the Williams Brothers, recorded in '72. They were a couple of teen heartthrob "Tiger Beat"-type singers at the time. Explains why I thought it might be Donny Osmond or Shaun Cassidy or someone like that.

Anyway, here are the lyrics, Joe. (I don't recall that the later Williams Bros recording had that big "Shooby-doo-bop-bah-dah!" ending though.)

What's Your Name
By Don & Juan 1962

What's your name?
I have seen you before
What's your name?
May I walk you to your door?

It's so hard to find a personality
With charms like yours for me
Oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-wee

What's your name?
Is it Mary or Sue?
What's your name?
Do I stand a chance with you?

It's so hard to find a personality
With charms like yours for me
Oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-wee

I stood on this corner waiting for you to come along
So my heart could feel satisfied
So please let me be your Number One
Under the moon
Under the stars
And under the sun

(Oh-woh)
What's your name? (what's your name?)
Is it Mary or Sue?
What's your name? (what's your name?)
Do I stand a chance with you?

It's so hard to find a personality
With charms like yours for me
Oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-wee

What's your name?
What's your name?

Shooby-doo-bop-bah-dah!

I guess the Williams Brothers were nephews of Andy Williams.
