I was wondering if someone could help me find any information about a song called "The Ballad of the Hot Rod Kid." I know the lyrics but I need to know who sang it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

The only song I can find on a quick search is "Be the Reason You Smile" which mentions "The Hot Rod Kid". I believe it is a rap song, but can't get a clear set of lyrics.

Where did you hear it? And what are the lyrics?

Could it be this song?

RED, READY, AMBER
(Worman - Bloomberg)
POLECATS (MERCURY, 1981)

Red, ready, amber, set, green, let's go!
I'm racin' like the wind, that's not very slow
Takin' no notice of my my speedo
I put my foot to the floor, race forward and then
Had to pull over, I was nicked again

[Chorus]
I'm the king of the highway and don't you know
In my car I'm a cool daddy-o
I'm a hot rod kid and I never drive slow
Red, ready, amber, set, green, let's go!

Red, ready, amber, set, green, let's go!
I'm a real mean dude in my daddy's car
I go very fast, but I never go far
I toot my horn at the girls, just missed a brick wall
My foot slips off the gas, and then I stall

[Chorus]

Red, ready, amber, set, green, let's go!
I'm an A one driver, though I don't like to boast
I can go across zebras with both eyes closed
As for parking, you better beware
I park on the pavement, 'cause it's much safer there

[Chorus]

Red, ready, amber, set, green, let's go!
I stole the car from our garage
While my mama's on the phone to my auntie Marge
My dad didn't notice, he was watchin' the telly
I got on the road and a gave it some welly

[Chorus]

It is an old song I think from the 50. Some of the lyrics are: Here's a story of a kid who's got the hottest car around
never does under 55 when he's speeding through the town
on the highway he opens it up and does 105
taking a chance of leaving this world and making someone cry

CHORUS:x1
the hot rod kid the hot rod kid
boy he loves to drag
driving cars at super speeds and you should hear him brag

Since Lee didn't leave any of the lyrics he knows, the best I could do is the following:

Maybe on this page?
