I have just heard the younguns podcast 91 which is a chat-through of all the tracks on the Younguns new album Plastic CodHeads. Sean is very knowledgeable and guides us through the tracks informing us of the history behind the stories with David Eagle playing a sample of each one. Well what a transformation! If you thought the first album was great (and it was) you should give this a try. They have addressed all the issues I might have had with the last album. The tuning was impeccable throughout and the balance of harmony and tune and instruments was superb. It is a really professional recording and absolutely marvelous choice of songs giving us the full range of traditional/contemporary folk music. Their rendition of their first broadcast song Pay Me My Money Down may have been done to death but these lads have given it a welcome freshness. Some great a cappella singing as well as a nice contemporary feel on other songs. Even Sean's mum give us a melody in the poignant song about the bombing of Hartlepool in 1914 ( haven't got the track list in front of me). Just get it. These boys need recognition for what they have achieved in the last 18 months. They are already well respected in the North of England and beyond and deservedly so. Keep it up.

We had them at Herga for a "feature" last year, and they won us over, they got a full booking on the spot. It is coming up soon: Monday 21st July, if you are anywhere in London or Herts/Bucks/Beds, come and see what the fuss is all about; you won't be disappointed!

I'm really looking forward to seeing them as I am from Hartlepool originally and it is great to see a quality new act coming from there and being so active on the local scene

Joe

Best act I've seen this year (well, top equal with the rather similar "These United States"). Well, they are actually not even remotely like These United States, except both groups are totally brilliant. See them as soon as you can, as often as you can. Haven't heard the CD yet, but it stands to reason it will be otstanding.
