Subject: Origins: Sands of Sudan ..... Skarpi ....... From: skarpi Date: 25 Feb 09 - 05:53 PM Hallo all . I am stuck in this song , I heard it first on Dubliners cd but is there anyone who knows the Origins of this Tune/lyric?? as the lyric tells us about the hunger and how the west are behavin . here is the lyric with some chords I use , note that you can also add more chords in and ofcourse do it in a simble way . The Sands of Sudan D A G D There´s a withering child on the sands of Sudan D F#m G A7 His Body ´s too weak to hold out his hand D A G D And beg for the bread that he might get today D A7 D For the bird in the sky from the west´s on it´s way A7 D G D He looks up with anguish and grief in his face D G D A7 The first world is coming but coming too late D A G D His young sister ´s body lies dead in the sand A7 D As the bird from the west drops it´s load on the land So what is more cruel , is it nature or man As thousands more perish on the sands of Sudan And what price to pay for a small bag of grain That the west throws away for its profit and gain The vultures look down from African sky On one living hell as they wait for their pray The hardship and suffering too great to believe These poor hungry people they need some relief The west´s anxious faces look on in despair From the comfort of home as we lounge in a chair And shed a few tears for the victims that die On video screens that we´ve saved up to buy There´s a withering child on the sands of Sudan His body too weak to hold out his hand And beg for the bread that he might get today For the bird in the sky from the west´s on its way I wish I could help more ...... All the best Skarpi Iceland |
